The Endless Blink
The page used to be a comfortable home, bound by quiet margins and a steady floor. But we have traded the slow, deliberate roadfor a boundless sky that promises more-and delivers only a relentless fog. Under the guilt to miss a single beat, and the desperate curiosity to know, the mind no longer sits; it runs, chasing shadows on a glowing streetwhere a thousand voices ebb and flow. We are always…
The Covenant of Water
I recently read this brillant book by Abraham Verghese and it moved me. Here is a poem I wrote around the book: A child bride stands/where the rivers meet/ with the soil of Parambil beneath her feet/ she learns the quiet weight/ of the air/ and the ancient shadow/ the family bears/ a choice of the blood/ a fate in the bones/ where the water claims/ what the spirit owns. For water may drown/ and…
A Mountain Marriage
To Yampa we hiked for a wedding,Through gorgeous green hills we were treading. With food from the peak,And new friends to speak,‘Twas a mountain affair worth embedding! Here are a few pictures I took during my trip for a friend’s weeding: © 2026 mermaidspen

A Different Kind of Green
The crowded feed demands a bright display, But the digital applause just drifts away. My blue Aparajita dropped its bloom, left parched or drowned within an empty room. No more performative, aesthetic green; I love the earth by leaving it unseen. Recently I have shared my experience and my resolution for earth on this Environment day. Read more at my newsletter:…
Platonic Geometry
Do you believe in soulmates? Why or why not? We didn’t fall into this. There was no sudden, breathless drop,no universe shifting on its axisto make room for a grand romance.Instead, it was quite settling. A recognition in the middle of a crowded room, like finding a book you forgot you ownedbut already know the ending too.You are the one who knowshow I take my coffee when the week has been too…
Sinner/ Sinned against?
This poem was sitting in my draft since 2019. We both had scars you were bravest to admit, We both loved stars I was lost, a little bit. We managed to hold on, need was the true glue, Things were going okay, I guess so were you. With every passing day, your smile became more pretty, When we made love, I can’t remember if it was passion or pity. You used to paint me every night and cry whole…
Late Spring Pages
It is May again, and for some reason, I have truly started enjoying this month. Last year around this time, I found myself here in Dharamshala for my mother-in-law’s knee replacement surgery. It was an unexpected stay, but it meant I was able to escape the unbearable summer heat. Now, a year later, here I am again—looking out at the snow-caked mountains while I sit and write. I have always…
At two, the house holds its breath,
a truce between chores and the heat.
On the balcony, the Desert Rose
stretches a shadow toward the glass—
a sundial finger marking the stilled air.
The fridge hums a steady pulse
until a crow breaks the sky,
leaving the silence heavier than before.
My pen waits by a cooling glass,
hungry for the evening to fold the light
and return the world to ink.

There once was a nut called pecan,
The finest since flavor began.
With a crunch and a snap,
It fell in my lap,
And vanished as fast as it can.

Motivation left. I stayed. Day 19.

Day 13: Pink Skies
the day bleeds out/a soft surrender/pink skies/a bruise of light/across the heavy air/I watch from the edge/of a glass-pane cage/where the clouds/ blush for a sun/they can no longer see/why does beauty/feel like a warning/a rosy veil/pulled over the eyes/of a world/that is still breaking/I breathe in the glow/a borrowed warmth/pink dust/settling on my skin/before the violet/takes it all back/and I am/once again/just a shadow/in the dark.
He counts the cracks upon the ceiling floor,
And dreams of keys to every locked-up door.
The belly breaks, but oh, the mind is full,
Obeying every Empty Plate Protocol.
