Alan Rickman is a fine actor, but he only makes sense as Snape if you’re casting Snape the way Harry sees him: as an imposing mature character any stern authority figure would seem like to an 11yo
Canon Snape is a perpetually-exhausted 30-something with “grad student living on caffeine, stale noodles, and two hours of sleep in a broom closet” energy who has to pretend to be imposing so these little preteen shits don’t commit grievous lab safety violations and his insane bosses don’t leave him out to die
Yeah, sorry. Alan, was, is and will be the best Snape ever. Age aside, no one’s ever going to have his sense of foreboding, languid voice, or presence ever again.
They’ll try, but they’ll all fail.
