did a whole ass analysis of this piece in relation to orientalism for my art portfolio. the piece is called “freedom grafitti” btw and was done by syrian artist tammam azzam in really really brief, simplified terms no one asked for the piece is supposed to reflect how western audiences didn’t care about the destruction happening in syria/saw it as distant and thus not worrying, so azzam superimposed images of famous western works onto images of ruins in syria to shock western audiences and raise awareness not only for the devastation in syria but also the west’s double standards. the full series is called “syrian museum” and you can find it on his website
