The Jabba The Hutt Dungeon Action Playset (1983) Kenner
neatlypumpair:
This sounds way inkier than it needs to.
This set is just a “reskinned” version of the Droid Factory released a few years earlier. Kenner did this quite a bit with Star Wars toys, repurposing beige, sandy Tatooine play sets for white, snow Hoth sets.
It was a pretty cheap move considering the huge profits Kenner was surely raking in. Funny how we never really caught on or seemed to care that much as kids.

when the square sides swing by it looks like it says jabba the butt
Vintage!!!!
I still have this set! (except it never had Jabba’s hookah thing. I always wondered what went in that spot..

I have fond memories of watching ROTJ (on Betamax! taped off of HBO!) and playing along with this set…
Glob, I used to play with this when I visited my grandma as a kid and it was awesome.
I have part of this set. My godfather gave me Jabba, his platform and Salacious Crumb. Best gift everrrr.
It’s official, grandparents love Jabba!
Dude. You rule.
There’s a comic book/vintage toy/movie memorbilia pawn show/antique store in town, and they have literally every vintage Star Wars playset. Ewoks village. Hoth. Jabba’s palace. The Death Star. I’m tempted to start going in and buying a piece every week. An AT-AT would be pretty awesome to have.
If you or anyone in your family has a history of addiction, then I would strongly suggest that you stay as far away as possible from vintage Star Wars toys.
That would have been good information to have known 18 years ago when my dad started buying me Star Wars figures.
szerintem ez a legkirályabb dolog a tumbleren!

Turret & Probot Playset (1981) Kenner
I don’t remember Chewie getting into a wrestling match with the probe droid…
Still have it! Pics coming!
Yesterday my dad just handed me a plastic bag with a probe droid head and the turret in two pieces.
I just feel uncomfortable with the word “probot.”
Nope. No. No. Nope.
This is one of the best so far. Probot looks kind of helpless here. If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s possible to feel sorry for a 30-year-old piece of inanimate plastic, the answer is a resounding “yes.”
Haha, yeah, this is pretty much all the Probot does, besides blow up of course. It must have had a self-destruct.

I kind of want to give it a hug. is that weird?

Sensorscope R2 is probably my favorite vintage Star Wars figure. I didn’t know it was a playset exclusive.

Yeah, that’s why it’s a bit more valuable.
No way he captures R2
Bad arse vintage style
That’s some nice-looking packaging. I love the Tauntaun’s pleasant expression on the backdrop: he looks like he’d be a good partner to have when trudging around the frozen expanses of Hoth.
Ha, ha, yeah, that Tauntaun has definitely got a Falcor vibe going on.
this is awesome! i had the one with the turret and the probot.
Imperial Attack Base Playset (1981) Kenner
One of my favorite toys as a kid. Figures from a lot of different lines saw action in this thing: winter-themed G.I. Joes, M.A.S.K. figures, Indiana Jones, and probably a few others that I’m forgetting got some use out of it when it wasn’t occupied by my two Snowtroopers and a few of their less-appropriately-attired buddies. It’s one of the few toys I’ve ever owned whose action features weren’t a detriment: blowing up the command post and the bridge never gets old, and sending a figure or two flying through the air with the foot-pad-thingies is pretty fun, as well. Love that box art, too: while it’s cool to see painted representations of the toys in action (a la the Hasbro Joe figures), I’m a sucker for a well-photographed display of the actual toy itself; the Kenner Star Wars stuff set the bar pretty high for that approach.

My tauntaun doesn’t have a saddle, so it looks like the Rebel is sticking out of the tauntaun’s back. Makes it easier to recreate the post-Wampa cave tauntaun sleeping bag scene, though.
vamosvideo:
Think I had this one but not with all those extra stormtroopers and whatnot. Only rich kids had those. Rich kids got everything.
I loved playing with this when I was a kid. Loved.
I had many, many figures (stored in a giant Darth Vader bust), but this was the only playset I had. That’s okay, because the collapsing ice-arch action couldn’t be beat anyway.
IS IT JUST ME OF DOES THE 5TH ONE FROM THE TOP LOOK LIKE HE’S HAVING SEX WITH THE TAUNTAUN??
Look close and you’ll see some Tauntaun - Rebel action!
I honestly don’t know what you guys are talking about. Yah pervs!
I can’t unsee that now. Rebel soldier, go home! You’re drunk!
