Website outage
Our website was down on September 10th due to a GoDaddy site outage. We're sorry for any inconvenience this caused. It affected millions of websites so it was a very broad and big issue, one that was unfortunately out of our control. Read about it here on Techcrunch. http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/10/godaddy-outage-takes-down-millions-of-sites/
Memory Hive iPhone launch
We launched our iPhone app in the iTunes store and it was selected by App Advice as one of the day's best. http://bit.ly/SzfOZy You can check it out here on iTunes. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/memory-hive-save-backup-share/id536812099. We've put a lot of time and sweat into this. It's got a lot of great features that we hope you really use and love. We also realize that this is a journey and we'll strive to improve it based on your feedback. We look forward to the conversation.
Today is the 75th anniversary of the 2,180 mile Appalachian Trail. Cool, but not super high on my bucket list.
I love this line from Pamela Alma Weymouth describing her meeting Nora Ephron as a child of 10 or 11 years old. "She made you feel that your ideas about peanut butter or Huckleberry Finn were just as important as her next dinner with Mike Nichols and Meryl Streep."

"To be a parent is to be constantly reminded that almost everything you thought you were doing right for your children will one day turn out to be wrong."

Wedding memory
Wow, what a wedding memory. "Meanwhile, what better way for two active duty Marines to celebrate Memorial Day weekend than by getting married atop Mister A’s restaurant as low-flying jets zoomed by to Lindbergh Field. The bride, Scripps Ranch Marine Kelli LaCosta, attends flight school, and her Camp Pendleton-based husband, Thomas Gallagher, is about to deploy to Japan." from the San Diego Tribune, Diane Bell, May 31, 2012 I wonder what the engagement proposal was like.
Thunderstorms
We had a brief rainstorm yesterday in Southern California. It was a real rain for Southern California--there were even a few minutes that could qualify as a downpour. A friend was even excited because he saw lightning. Storms are pretty rare here; but not in the Midwest (or maybe many parts of the country). I have many memories of real thunderstorms in Ohio when I was growing up. The summer ones stand out the most. They were the ones where you could see the storm clouds from the distance, inexorably rolling toward you. You knew it was coming, but you kept on playing, hoping you could finish the tee-ball inning, or do another jump from the high dive before the lightning came. Then the storm arrived and it would rain cats and dogs. There is something awesome about watching a thunderstorm. I remember watching the the lightening and listening to the thunder. The lightning would literally light up the sky. It was pretty impressive. We had a rule of thumb that the lightning was one mile away for every second between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder. We’re going to visit Ohio this summer. I hope my kids get to experience a real thunderstorm.
Kids joke
A teacher was teaching math. She said, "if you reached into your left pocket and found a nickel, and then reached into your right pocket and found an additional nickel, what would you have?" Child responds, "Somebody else's pants."
Hot chocolate memories-- Nesquik from the old tin can. Hot chocolate had to be made with milk which was warmed on the stove.

Hot chocolate with marshmallows after playing outside in the snow. The hot chocolate had to be made with milk and Nestle Quik. Nothing better.
Reminds me of my sister and me
My dad was old school. I started mowing lawns with a push mower like this.
Hmm, I washed a diaper with my son's clothes. My son had a bed wetting accident last night. In my rush to get things washed, I inadvertently got a used diaper in there. The diaper actually held together pretty well as you may be able to tell. The load and the diaper should be clean right? It was only pee and upon visual and olfactory inspection, the clothes seemed clean. I did not rewash them.

How funny was the Carol Burnett show? So many fond memories of watching that show with the family. I love this dentist sketch. I love the fact they seemed to have so much fun on the show.
