similar to lea and isa, he was also caught sneaking into the castle, though instead of the actual castle he snuck into the outer gardens, where xehanort initially caught him there, and invited him inside under false pretense before ultimately leading him to the top tiers, stabbing him in the heart with the no name and letting him fall into the ocean outside, with only a morbid curiosity as to whether or not he might be strong enough of heart to return as a nobody. demyx was subsequently reborn from the same fountains he would sit by and sing, crawling to the castle where xehanort waited with a cruel sense of triumph as he was given a new name, and inspired to craft the arpeggio from the remains of his supposed heartlessness.

so as we’ve already discussed demyx is anything but innocent and the fact that he’s been hand picked by master xehanort to join the ranks of the true organization, let’s get into it ( bear in mind this will be canon selective and a bit dodgy at best simply because i don’t know what exactly kh3 will entail though i don’t have a lot of hope and also because this is my blog my show my rules )

so it’s no surprise that demyx in each media outlet, including his official appearance in the kh3 trailers, has consistently been made out to be comedic ( ‘ i’m useless, i’m chicken! ’ lmfao bite me nomura ) most notably in the kh manga, though as the manga isn’t entirely canonical from time to time and provides more absurdist comedy from time to time ( rather welcome imo ) i generally take the manga with a grain of salt. 

going back to the actual gaming media, and this is where i’m going to start superimposing my own canon and views as well, but demyx is, admittedly, presented in a very comedic light, and generally i have no issue with that

however

there are two main instances where we encounter demyx and his display of power, the first being in the underworld, having stolen from the gods, and the second being in the ruins of hollow bastion where already we’re faced with a vast departure from what we’ve already encountered from him. granted, by this point we’ve only encountered his water clones, but it’s also a testament to the fact that we truly have no idea what demyx is really, truly capable of, and especially with water, one of THE MOST versatile and dangerous elements. i’d argue that even between axel’s first and second boss battles during the tutorial, we still get the sense that axel is a powerful individual, and that the second showdown in the basement of the manor doesn’t come across as very surprising. 

demyx, meanwhile, who is known to be the best member of the organization at reconnaissance, fucking recon, while simultaneously coming across as lazy and still managing to summon that kind of power in hollow bastion WHILE ALSO revealing a rather intriguing hand, most notably ‘ silence, traitor. ’ and ‘ oh, we do too have hearts. don’t be mad. ’

ESPECIALLY WITH DDD TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION, EITHER NOMURA IS JUST CHERRY PICKING HIS CANON BASED ON STUPID LITTLE JOKES OR THIS GOTDAMN MEANS SOMETHING, AND GIVEN HIS MEANS OF STORYTELLING, PARALLELS AND FORESHADOWING, THE USE OF LITERARY DEVICES AND THE SHEER SIGNIFICANCE OF SOME OF THE MOST SEEMINGLY INSIGNIFICANT SHIT AND THE FACT THAT DEMYX IS NOW A MEMBER OF THE TRUE FUCKING ORGANIZATION UNDER MASTER FUCKING XEHANORT HIMSELF, DARE I SAY THERE’S MORE TO THIS THAN MEETS THE EYE.
