thinking about redeemed folly.... as much as i want them to be together, the relationship between melanie and folly is strained (to say the least) and will be even more afterwards. i imagine she's saved from MR or convinced out of it some way, and now she's extremely vulnerable, alone, everyone who she had hurt won't look her way, yknow.
i think that the folly searching gang will be the one to pick up the pieces, melanie included. she will have to look folly in the eye in this vulnerable state and cant help but see beyond the monster who had hurt her and see herself, hurt, alone, just like she was after folly had killed her.
melanie definetly doesnt have to forgive her. melanie definetly doesnt have to care for her. but i think melanie is very kind-hearted and empathetic and would give into helping her. small ways, reluctantly, at first excusing it as a neccessity, bc folly doesnt have anyone else, bc she cant be left like this, but slowly it would turn into genuine care and understanding.
i want melanie to realize that, yes, she had been terribly hurt, but folly is a victim too. both of them had been hurt in terrible ways -- maybe she'd see her suffering and relate to that.
following canon - i dont think melanfolly could ever be healthy or happen. but melanie coming to find out and understand folly's hurt is on my christmas list
