this blog is about art and design in public spaces and urban design: Public spaces are places and areas that are open and accessible to all citizens, no matter if they are male or female, where they come from, their race or how much income they have. These spaces include places such as parks, squares, and plazas, streets and roads that provide for pedestrian access and commercial places, such as markets. Quality public spaces are extremely important for improving the standards of urban life for all citizens. They are a symbol of important aspects of a city, such as safety, health, culture and the local economy. Public space is where life in the city takes place; our journey to work or school, where we drink coffee and eat ice cream, where we walk, skateboard and play basketball and the site for political discussion and protest. Good quality space is essential to our satisfaction with urban life. But all too often poor quality and badly maintained public space reflect the physical, economic and social deprivation and encourages a spiral of decline.
