Observations from making a transcontinental road trip in a 13 year old Prius:
- Chicago is fine.
- Nebraska is an abomination of cow and soy and itβs continued existence as anything other than open Prairie is a moral failing.
- However, western Nebraska during a thunderstorm at sunset is transcendant in both its terror and beauty.
- The Great Divide Basin is the most beautiful place on Earth and we should blow up each oil well out there.
- Salt Lake City is so weird.
- Ex-Mormon gays are literally so nice. They got me and my wife free shit and cheered for Pittsburgh. Also Salt Lake City gay sex is very good.
- Crossing the third of the fuck all emptinesses of the journey, IMO, and Nevada may not have the desolate grandeur of the Great Divide Basin but it is nice desert so definitely better than Nebraska still.
- Oh wait, forgot to add, the Great Salt Lake is amazing and the salt flies there moving in swarms are beautiful. Much love to the seagulls and spiders too
- Mexican food in Reno goes hard
- Watching Mexico lose in Reno goes sad :(
- Lake Tahoe is beautiful if tourist-y
- Itβs extremely funny that we put a park, and also I-80 so close to where all those fuckin settlers in the Donner Party ate each other. Itβs like, hey, stop on by with your kids! Less than two hours to Sacramento! This is where they munched! Buy a sticker :)
- Filipino food in Sacramento goes so hard in made my Pinay wife nearly cry.
- The continent just fuckin ends. Also, the northern shore of San Pablo Bay is beautiful.
- I've driven in Philly, DC, Chicago, Baltimore, haven't driven in NYC but have been driven through it, so, you know, whatever disclaimer I haven't been to your home, but fwiw Sacramento has the most antagonistic, unpleasant driving infrastructure I think anywhere I've been. Fuck your giant eight lane highways.
- The Golden Gate Bridge really is that pretty. It just is. They just let you cross it and it really is that cool looking.
- It's almost unbearable, isn't it? Cab drivers in New York and Ex-Mormons in SLC and immigrants from Manila. It's too much. Too much space too many lives too much detail. You pass a falling down shack in Wyoming and you have to ask yourself, who put this here? Why? Does it matter if they fell in love here, had their heart broken here, kept working here? Were they a bad person here, was this place good for them? So many fucking lives, so much space, so much time. And it's all there, in bright, unblinking reality. It's all there, if you look for it.
I reccomend OP drive through the Colorado Plateau, Hoover Dam, and Flagstaff or Sedona.

I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.

I don't usually post about politics on my page (unless it's a funny meme), but I find this whole situation to be atrocious.
As someone who cares for critical cardiac patients on a daily basis (many of them elderly), I have no doubt that Mitch McConnell is dead. The survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is less than ten percent. Combine that with his advanced age and his history of CABG (open heart surgery), and his chances of survival are probably closer to one or two percent.
CPR is not like what you see in movies or TV shows. It's brutally violent and, at times, difficult to watch. After one or two compressions, his ribs would've snapped like a bunch of dried up twigs. He's likely on a ton of blood thinners, so if any of those bone fragments punctured his lungs or pericardial space, he would've suffered devastating internal bleeding. Possibly corrected with a couple of drains and multiple transfusions. But even still, he would remain hemodynamically unstable.
Now, if he did survive resuscitation, he's probably on a ventilator or ECMO due to severe damage to his heart and lungs. There's a good chance that he's brain dead. And if that's the case, keeping him on life support for FOUR WEEKS is cruel and unethical. And for what? An extra senate seat? I may not agree with his politics, but just like anyone, he deserves to die with dignity.
He does deserve to die with dignity.
However, its ironic that hes being kept alive, without thought to his will, in order to fulfill a GOP political goal, without regard to societal damages.
