None of my professors took trumps primary run seriously, except my urban and regional econ professor. And he said a concern he had was for the federal datasets to be discontinued or ruined.

Part of his job and the research he did depended on some of these datasets, particularly the American community survey. But so much of scientific, academic, and corporate research depends on this data sets.

When i worked as a consultant and in corporate as a researcher, I used various government datasets in my job. Executives made decisions with reports based on these.

My stats professor hammered into us that modeling was "garbage in garbage out". Your data needs to be accurate and clean to get any meaningful results, this is true of academia, government, and private sector. By trashing this data, a large amount of our society is not able to make accurate assessments. This means projects that fail, innacurate preditictions leading to incorrect supply, botched expansions. This is in every facet of society. This is consumer goods, financial goods, school funding-facilities planning.

What's happening on the internet right now is everything being poisoned with bad data and slop. The government datasets turning into slop? That could upend chunks of the economy.
