My Placement Digital Diary

2020 was a hard year for all of us, having to work from home and keep motivated was a struggle for me. I wasn’t really inspired much by my home village and always find better observations in city life to inspire me and draw from. However with hand in due and gap year over I have started my research on Hip-Hop Revolution.

My concept combines both 70s Mardi Gras Indians and 90’s Hip Hop trend which originated in American. (New Orleans and NewYork City).

During my time off it started of okay and I gained a placement with Jade Moss which lasted 6 months part time. Working with Jade give me a chance to learn about new fashion trends which I wouldn’t particularly go for my self being retro/vintage.

My job role was social media marketing which involved running all of Jade’s music and fashion accounts.

Near the end of my time with Jade I wanted to try something new and abit more exciting for myself. Something I knew I might get a job in after I graduated as I learned social media marketing wasn’t fulfilling my design skills. Also working from home meant I couldn’t take part in proper photography, learn hands on what it takes to be a designer and also see some content when Jade was creating her music videos. But we did the best we could with the situation.

However another lockdown happens in November and placement roles were still differcult to get. I now have work to make up my credits which has kept me going till I am back at university, when ever that may be!

I was able to visit a couple of places before lockdown, For example;

-Baltic Museum

-Fashion and Textile Museum

-Dover Street Market

-Selfridges

Let’s hope for a better year and back to normality soon.

I am inspired by Moschino’s latest collection as the idea of my own latest concept was CONTRAST. This consists of contrasting fabrics, mixed prints and colour. Similar to his own.

I think I’m our modern day society you need to be realistic about figure types and how you promote your authenticity of your brand. Promoting girls who look a certain way to buy your clothes is only going to narrow your market to sell to.
