okay but seriously, the two of them are two extremely different kinds of insane that work together very rarely, but when they do it goes very well.

Also the "you're a man of eggs" "I've stayed in your house before, I know your habits". And the fact that Zedaph had to clarify that he was the doctor when they accidentally made multiple shulker babies (while trying to transport a shulker) and Grian was named as the father. In my heart, Zed is simultaneously the doctor and the mother, and apparently all the Zedrian children are End beings if you count the dragon eggs.

SL!Scar, alone, and longing for company, but simultaneously haunted constantly by ghosts and shadows who taunt him, and he just wishes would leave him alone. And Sculk!Cub, intimately close to the Sculk, but still alone, separate from the world that just doesn't understand, or are repulsed, or hurt him and his precious sculk.

SL!Scar, constantly planting bright sunflowers, unable to die or move on. And Sculk!Cub, corrupting everything he touches, constantly rotting, and decaying, knowing only death.

SL!Scar, haunted by ghosts. Sculk!Cub, spreading souls.

SL!Scar, so desperate for any sort of intimacy that becoming enternally bound in symbiosis to an all-corrupting malicious fungal parasite sounds like a dream. And it comes with someone, another player, one who can't see particularly well, who can't Watch him, like the shadow people, like the constant whispers.

Sculk!Cub, who only knows decay, and death, with someone cursed to never die, never rot, never leave, planting bright flowers, day after day, that bloom whatever the climate, whatever the season. With someone who, far from running and fearing him, embraces the sculk, embraces the thought of that level of Connection.

And somewhere, deep, deep, down, buried by decades of isolation and magic and trauma, they still know who the other is, they still remember each other, all the pranks, and care, and love they felt, the grief of losing them, the pit slowly being filled anew by this person who almost looks like, and almost acts like that friend they can't quite remember.

pearl and gem have managed to dodge the polycule wreath, and are watching it with morbid curiosity (pearl) and extreme interest (gem).

The part that doesn't change: Pearl still teams with Scar. The part that does: Scar loses his final life early, leaving Pearl alone. But then Jimmy also just lost his final life around that time, so Scott is also alone.

The two widows decide to team with each other, hence starting an alliance that lasts all the way into the next game and beyond. The one person each other could rely on, the one person who could understand them, in the wake of their respective losses.

They're the final two - still a pair of soulmates. But imagine losing your husband, finding another companion to devote your life to, and in the end you have to kill them too. Pearl wins, but this is the point her own widow's curse begins, her grief for the people closest to her, being used against her by the Watchers.

maybe the creeper prank didn't kill scar and so grian never leaves. maybe martyn follows through with his betrayal of the red king much sooner, spurred on by his famously rebellious ally. maybe bigb is the one person keeping them sane, keeping them close but still at a distance with his lies, knowing they could turn on him as easily as they already have for the rest of the king's army. maybe they're the final three, and their final dance takes place not in the desert but in the kingdom they both built and brought down.

it's a relationship founded on a shared traumatic past with the watchers, built up with mutual distrust and fortified with collective betrayal of all their other allies, until it's only them in the end, all bridges burnt. the only people left for them to love are each other, and they put their entire heart into it. they would kill for each other as easily as they would dodge the knife coming for their own back.

(the three musketeers imagery would go so hard though.

also, for a less angsty idea: they only have one bed, grian and bigb never acknowledge it, martyn does and keeps asking how they'll sleep that night. the answer, in lore, is all of them squished together in the beginning when things seem peaceful, then taking turns to keep watch once red names start to appear.)

Jimmy is so aware he's not bdubs' first choice. He knows he's just a rebound. He still puts himself at risk for bdubs.
