So like, let’s just make a road-map of Bellamy and Clarke’s perspectives throughout season 5 towards each other.

Clarke

I gave my life for them - I kept living just to see them/him again - He came back like the hero I always knew he was - We’re a team again - Wait he’s with someone and everything is different - I am not a priority to him or them or anyone but Madi - I am alone but for Madi and we need to leave - Wait maybe… things can fall into place like it always did - There are parts of him that seem so familiar… - I understand why he does what he does and he understands why I do what I do and I will respect his boundaries as much as possible in terms of O - He still makes me smile like he used to - Well our plan went to shit. Guess I’ll die. But he will look after Madi, I know it. - Here he comes again, the hero as always. Together. It’s so familiar… - Wait… This hurts and he’s doing it. - Wait… He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t care. - I’m truly more alone now than I’ve ever been in those 6 years.

Bellamy

Clarke gave her life and I love her but I need to move on and live or it will be for nothing - Clarke is alive and I can fix everything. - Well… Clarke is alive and we’re back in action at least. - Oh God thing’s are terrible and this is breaking my heart this is nothing like I thought it was going to be. - I don’t recognize anything here or any of the faces around me except for the ones I spent 6 years with. Everyone is different and their prioritizes reflect that. - Think with my head think with my head think with my head that’s how we survive. - Clarke has Madi and I get that and maybe she doesn’t need me anymore so I need to look after my own - Think with my head think with my head that’s how we survive - O just called me out and she’s right fuuuck - I am changing on the ground too and I don’t know what this means to me - I’ll address it when I need to - I see no option except to put Madi on the throne. I’d rather Clarke hate me then be dead. It also solves everything. Win/win… right? - Well that went to shit and I broke Clarke’s heart. O hates me. Spacekru will die (he thinks). Now what?

So Clarke is at her worst right now. She is more alone now than ever, EVER, before because at least she had the fantasy of her friends to comfort her. Now she has NOTHING. She needs to be proved wrong.

And after the slap, Bellamy KNOWS he broke Clarke’s heart, and Octavia AND Clarke both don’t care if he dies apparently. He is also at his lowest. He’s lost and is going to lose everyone, and they are all going to eventually lose each other to each other unless SOMETHING GIVES. He needs to learn the same thing Clarke learned about thinking too much with the head and not with the heart.

Maybe he’s starting to ignore his heart because it’s saying some things he thought were over and done with?

Maybe she’s ignoring her feelings for him because he ripped her heart out and spat on her trust in him?

I feel like I see the strings weaving apart and coming back together but I can’t quite place my finger on what’s going to happen yet.

The Line

So I’m keeping back most of my reaction until I can rewatch tomorrow but I will say this:

Up until this point, Clarke and Bellamy have both been operating as a unit this season, very much like s1-2. Together. Except we know from their time apart this isn’t true-- their loyalties are different but until now, those separate loyalties still allowed them to stay pretty cohesive. When Bellamy brings the idea of Madi as commander to Clarke, he’s still taking her into consideration... but ultimately, saying that Spacekru is his family. Clarke definitely saw this as him drawing a line between them, a sort of “THOSE people are my family and I will use YOUR family to protect them.”

Remember how in 1x08, Clarke realizes that Bellamy trusts Miller and Bellamy says that she should keep him close?

Fast forward to 5x08 when Miller arrests Clarke without hesitation and Bellamy shades him with the “so much for the 100″ line.

How sad is that?

Unpopular Opinion

I’m a big Bellarke shipper since season 1. But I have to say that what Bellamy did in 5x08 wasn’t JUST for Clarke. It was for the war AND it was for Octavia too. He’s still trying to save her… from herself and from death. She’s still his little sister. Bellamy didn’t pick Clarke OVER Octavia. Bellamy picked them both. He picked what he thought would keep them both alive within the current situation. Not trying to take anything away from Bellarke, or from the fact that O is like an angrier version of Satan rn, but I just don’t like people pushing for Bellamy to have suddenly forgotten how to be the precious big brother he is. If he actually picked Clarke over Octavia he would’ve just probably killed her like he said. I just think he picked them both. He needs them both alive. He wants to save them both. Physically, mentally and whichever other ways they currently need saving. So yeah… thats my opinion on the whole poisoned into a coma thing.

I agree he had many reasons but I think it was mostly about Clarke, with the added benefit that it stops the war because:

- Not everyone wakes up from a coma. Putting someone into a coma is dangerous. We as the audience know she’ll wake up but there’s no way for Bellamy to know that. He’s risking her health, if not her life. This isn’t protecting her. If this was Abby, a doctor, putting someone into a coma with medical equipment and proper sedatives? Way less dangerous. But Bellamy, with no medical training, no equipment, and a harmful algae? SUPER dangerous.

- This is just the beginning, it’s a set up for further conflict down the line. He is going to have to pick between them again and the stakes will be higher.

- If it was just an issue of the war, Bellamy would have exhausted all possible alternatives before resorting to this to get peace. Hell, he’d have kidnaped Octavia and locked her up somewhere before resorting to this. The fact that Clarke is in danger is what forces him to make this choice.

- The decision has to be mostly about Clark because the writers created a situation where the accusation of love isn’t just dialogue but supported by Bellamy’s behavior.

Given that, I think it’s pretty safe for everyone to assume his primary objective was rescuing Clarke at all costs.

Indra

I’m wondering how she’ll react next episode and what that means for Clarke and Bellamy. She’s been reluctantly helping them so far because she knows Octavia needs to be subverted but Indra is all about protecting Octavia. She will not appreciate the danger Bellamy put her in, especially since Indra has had a lot of faith in Bellamy (or more accurately, his influence on his sister) this season.

Also, Cooper is dead and Indra was demoted. Who becomes Acting Blodreina while Octavia is out? I’m guessing Indra but wouldn’t Miller (he was given Indra’s command) and Madi (as Second) have some sort of power?

Unpopular opinion: is anyone else worry that bellamy and clarke have known each other for so long that it might be kinda weird for them to become a thing at this point?

I don’t worry about it for them but I worry about it for the audience. Honestly, after so long, I’ll find it kinda weird when they start kissing.

Bellamy-Clarke-Octavia dynamic, cont’d

Building off this post: Clarke has never been close to Octavia. The start of their relationship, Octavia was antagonistic (101) and later Clarke was kind of dismissive of Octavia (106: ”It’s Octavia, she’s probably chasing butterflies.”) and she remained kind of distant with her because Clarke was always more worried about being a leader (which is a. why Clarke is closer with Bellamy, and b. why she’s dismissive of Octavia until Octavia becomes useful.) They had moments as friends, Clarke looked out for as she was part of the 100, and they allied together in later seasons but they haven’t been friendly for awhile. This was emphasized in their tame greeting of each other when the bunker was opened. Clarke’s relationship to Octavia has in many ways always been mediated by Bellamy. Clarke only ever put Octavia in danger in extreme situations (because again, she was her people AND because Clarke knew what she meant to Bellamy) but she was still willing to put her in danger many times. Despite this, Bellamy “Forgiveness is hard for us” Blake always forgave Clarke. The dude could hold a grudge, especially in situations involving his sister, except with Clarke.

We see this in 508 yet again. Clarke threatens Octavia’s and Bellamy is upset about it but by the latter half of the episode, he’s like “I don’t like it… but I get it and we’re cool.”

But it took him 3 years to forgive Echo.

The Bellamy-Clarke-Octavia Dynamic

So whenever I watch something, I make notes. I mentioned before that I have pages and pages of notes on the 100 that I’ve never posted. This is something I noted a few weeks ago but never posted:

Bellamy at the start of s1 would do ANYTHING for his sister. What we see over the seasons is a shift in his priorities— yes, he would still do anything for his sister but he increasingly must balance that impulse with his responsibilities to his people. Now in s5 we’re seeing the ultimate manifestation of that shift. For the past 6 years, he’s been nothing but responsible and loyal to spacekru. He could do nothing for Octavia from space. Now he’s back on the ground but they’ve both changed. He still loves Octavia but would he do ANYTHING for her?

There’s always been this dynamic on the show where Bellamy feels responsible and guilty about his sister, Octavia equally resented and loved him, and Clarke was a relatively silent witness to this, who understood his devotion (and now understands it on another level). Importantly, Clarke was a witness to this because of her closeness to Bellamy, not to Octavia.

This dynamic was always there but never a major storyline. It’s been referenced in conversations between characters, and obviously Bellamy, Octavia and Clarke have always been the major players in the story but it’s only in s5 where we’re seeing the dynamic between these three become a major story. The relationships these three have with each other is being placed in the middle of everything.

TL;DR: The show has always been about Bellamy, Clarke and (to a lesser extent) Octavia and the things that happen to them but now the dynamic between them is an outright storyline.

And now, I’d just like to point out that after 508, we know that no, Bellamy won’t do ANYTHING for Octavia, and that Clarke is explicitly the catalyst to Bellamy turning against Octavia.

508 Random Thoughts

508 AKA the episode where my predictions come true...

Clarke said they’d take her out. Implies killing but may also mean incapacitating.

Clarke is the only person from the 100 that can understand what this is doing to Bellamy

Likewise, Bellamy understands why Clarke is willing to do this do Madi.

I like this “I’ve seen it all, please don’t do what I did” version of Kane.

I don’t ship it but Abby and Vincent being science buddies.. love it.

Ugh love Bellamy and Clarke scheming with Indra

Clarke is threatening to kill Octavia and Bellamy disagrees with her but he’s still being really calm about it. If it was anyone else but Clarke, he’d seriously lose his shit.

Yep, Raven is gonna find out about the drugs and give Abby shit. Can’t wait. And I totally called this weeks ago.

“You’re killing her, aren’t you?” It’s Bellamy and Clarke, duh.

I love this trend of everyone calling Bellamy and Clarke out for being willing to sacrifice only certain people. Monty telling Bellamy that the “one for the few” idea can apply to Octavia is just iconic.

Bellamy’s one for the few line parallels Kane and Diyoza’s convo.

The 100 has always loved its parallels but they’re seriously going all out with them this season. Parallels every fucking episode.

I don’t even care that they’re in disagreement, the fact that Bellamy and Clarke are still teaming up despite it is huge and I love it.

Are McCreary and Murphy going to fucking team up?! I love this season.

I love this moment between Kane and Diyoza because Kane’s vision of peace seems visionary to him but he’s essentially just describing a primitive version of a life Diyoza actually lived— which is why she’s able to surprise him by chiming in on his vision.

Naming her baby HOPE?! Another Pandora’s box reference. Quick reminder that in the Pandora’s box myth, the box (jar) contains all evil... including hope.

laughing my ass off because they go from Diyoza touching her stomach and talking about her bb to the shot of worms in Coopers stomach right after 😂 this visual parallel and the Pandora’s box reference make me wonder what they have planned for this baby storyline (especially since it seems likely that McCreary is the father)

Honestly, Abby is the only character I don’t like this season.

Harper and Monty are so solid. It’s great.

I like that their plan went to shit because these are the times when Bellamy and Clarke rally together.

THAT MUSIC CHANGE DURING THEIR SCENE

I KNEW that Clarke would be placed between Bellamy and Octavia. He has to choose. Not only that, he promised to protect Madi... with Clarke gone, he’s more directly in charge of Madi’s care, which means Madi will be another thing between Bellamy and Octavia.

I KNEW “My sister, my responsibility” was gonna come up again. And I bet it’ll keep coming up. It’s gonna be a theme this season.

Everyone knows how important Octavia is to Bellamy. She’s always been the most important person to him. Her importance to him is reiterated throughout this whole episode. Now, he’s directly going against her, putting her in danger…. for Clarke.

What I want to see going forward:

Someone (Kane, Abby, Monty, Diyoza, Madi, Indra) ANYONE to acknowledge what Bellamy is willing to do for Clarke

Clarke and Bellamy’s little heart to heart was interrupted. I want a scene where they continue this and SHE acknowledges what he did (especially since she’s the one who best understands what Octavia means to him)

Vincent thanked Abby for saving his life. I’m guessing they’ll be in some situation later where Abby is threatened and the serial killer saves her.

I feel like we don’t appreciate Charmaine calling Clarke Bellamy’s girlfriend enough. Like that deserves SO MUCH appreciation, she literally referred to Clarke as Bellamy’s girlfriend aka not friend aka not platonic soulmate aka not anything that can be explained away. Glances, touches, sacrifices, implied pining and actual moments when they’ve cared for each other aside, this is the best confirmation we’ve ever got of Bellarke being romantic or at least perceived as it.

Also it’s really important that the other relationship assumption she made (Kane and Abby) was IMMEDIATELY corrected but there was no one to correct her about Bellamy and Clarke. And Kane can’t confirm/deny for her because he hasn’t been around them in 6 years. So she’s basically still under the impression that Bellarke are a thing.

I know Octavia is the “villain” but I’m all here for her calling out Bellamy and Clarke on hypocrisy. Remember, there are no good guys.

Bellamy was still holding out hope for Octavia. This is the turning point where he’s realizing she’s truly not the same girl in all the ways that matter.

We get a scene where Octavia is willing to do anything for her people and risk “acceptable losses”. Followed closely by a scene where Echo is willing to do anything, including make sacrifices. Followed by Bellamy and Clarke willing to potentially hurt Octavia’s guards (weren’t they just criticizing Octavia for acceptable losses???). They’re all in the same situation. Monty points out that they’re all the same.

This puts Echo against Raven but how will Bellamy react? He’s willing to hurt the guards but Shaw has helped his friends. The thing about morally grey characters is it’s sometimes hard to determine who they find “acceptable losses” and who they think is worth saving.

Octavia turning on Indra is the official sign she’s really going off the deep end now.

Echo already set it in motion so Raven took the opportunity but now it’ll have damaged her relationship with Echo. Echo was doing what was necessary but it was a betrayal to Raven.

Diyoza finally told Abby she’s pregnant– so is this her real motivation for keeping Abby medicated? She wants a functioning doctor around for the birth.

Clarke views Octavia as a danger to Madi and she’s doing what she can to protect Madi, regardless of Bellamy. Remember when I said those shots from Shifting Sands was placing Clarke in the middle of Bellamy and Octavia? This is it.

The ending of this episode was series of betrayals.

What I want to see going forward: - The day Madi is disillusioned about Octavia and I’m wondering what the catalyst will be - I don’t think it’s likely to happen but I’d like to see Bellamy trying to talk sense into Madi - More Bellamy Clarke Monty plotting sessions - I think people are getting their hopes up for E08. It’ll definitely focus on Bellarke but after the ending of E07, I doubt anything is actually going to happen between them. (I’m ok with this)

- I kind of want to see a scene where Abby echoes Kane’s “it wasn’t enough” line. I thought she was going to say it this episode when he told her he loved her.

@shivachichi if Madi ever gets the flame CLs will probs say it’s more proof L and Clarke are soulmates because Clarke raised a nightblood child who now has a piece of L in her.. so it’s like she’s really their child 🤨
