Day 23 – Defining character moment - Illya Kuryakin
My last ‘moment’ post covered an entire season, because I’m unstoppable! Why change?
My favourite Illya’s season is the fourth one. Most people remember it as the one in which Illya was kidnapped 100 times, but it’s statistical error. Valandros, who lives in a cave… I mean, there were three episodes in a row where he was kidnapped, but the rest of the season he was a true action hero. And he saved Napoleon’s pretty ass multiple times.
Illya is not famous for displaying his emotions, but in this season he shows a lot of them. Especially, when he learns that something happened to Napoleon. He’s a man of action, not of talking, so, it’s the things he does we judge him by. And, of course, every word he says is very precious too, because he only speaks when he has to.
I feature here parts from four episodes. They all have Illya doing everything he can to save his partner, but the last two also show him nearly exploding when he can’t help Napoleon. And while in Gurnius we see a lot of anxiety, in Maze it’s despair.
It’s very important to me seeing Illya as a very emotional person. Yes, he can control himself, but he’s never cold. And even he might lose control. And I love it, what else do I need to justify this post? I love Illya, I love how much he loves Napoleon, I love how complex and badass he is.
