Y'know what, actually? The more I think about it, the more I start to view MC's hierarchy as "here's a rough model of a hierarchy established for generations but it's flexible enough to be filtered through the characters' biases as changes constantly keep happening, so more or less the characters themselves dictate the hierarchy to show where they stand and navigate the new status quo that challenges the comfort they used to live in". This would kinda explain i.e. the mistitling of Hürrem as late as S02 (which is endorsed even by people who aren't against her and have no reason to constantly mistitle her like SS and Nigar) from a more Watsonian perspective. This would also explain why MCK's hierarchy is more consistent - the new power base (a fuller-fledged SOW) is more solidified, most characters have actually become used to living more dynamically instead of the 'static' status-quo of rises and falls that breaks throughout MC - now it's the top of the ladder's, the Sultan's power that really shakes. It's not a matter of how precedented or not it is for people like Hürrem to rise in the hierarchy, it's a matter of who will rise and how quickly. Some stuff like Safiye not wanting to address Handan as "Valide" happens, but it's way more rare and again rooted in character - Safiye doesn't want to let her power go.

For this year's theme I picked Björk and her song "Come to Me" because I thought the lyrics on their own really fitted Hatice and her closest - they love each other a lot (a more familial kind of love than what the song suggests of course, but still 😅) and it can't help but constantly show by their actions. No matter how different they are, they are always eager to take care for each other and protect each other. It would be pointless to say even a word, they already know.
