Kinda wishing for Tooru or Yuki for the lover one 😢 But why does Miyamura hates me 😭?!!
“but james potter was a bully””he bullied snape!!!” ok? someone had to do it.
🙄
~Here’s a list of good and shitty things Snape did canonically:
Bad:
•Snape was a blood supremacist who called lily a slur.
•invented a curse for enemies (marauders)
I don’t think a good person would make up a curse which mutilates someone terribly. That too, during his time in Hogwarts.
•oh yeah later on he became a death eater 😋 (the main goal of the death eaters wasto eliminate all muggle-borns in the wizarding world and establish voldemort as its ruler)(magical nazis basically).
Plus when voldy was going to kill lily, Snape was like yk what you can kill the husband and the INFANT just don’t hurt my lily flower teehee like okay james bullied him so him not caring about james made sense but harry was a child bro
•BULLIED CHILDREN DURING HIS TIME AS A PROFESSOR????? he was literally neville’s bogart ffs and not because “some teachers are just scary okay Neville was afraid of almost everything!!!” but because Snape bullied neville on a daily basis plus threatened to kill his pet after a failed potion thingy. plus he made fun hermione’s physical appearance (when draco made her teeth all big and Snape was like hah it’s the same there’s no difference) and he bullied for BEING GOOD AT ACADEMICS LIKE 😭😭😭???? He bullied almost everyone in Hogwarts I just know it.
•sectumsempra’d George’s year off.
•tried to out Remus Lupin as a werewolf for NO reason other than his childish misdemeanour.
Good:
•called Sirius and Remus an old married couple.
•saves Katie bell from a cursed necklace
•saves draco malfoy from a terrible curse that could’ve killed him by the counter charm “vulnera saneteur”
can someone guess which curse Snape saved draco from??? You’re right! It was sectumsempra!
•switched sides or smth
~Here’s a list of good and shitty things james did canonically:
Bad:
•called Snape snivellus (was funny ngl)
•bully snape
Good:
•turned into an illegal animagus at the age of 15 so his werewolf friend (Remus) has company during his transformations.
•took sirius black in after he ran away from an abusive hoursehold.
•SAVED FUCKING SNAPE FROM REMUS IN HIS WEREWOLF FORM AFTER SIRIUS SENT HIM THERE.
JAMES SAVED SNAPE.
•literally died trying to stall Voldemort so Lily and Harry have some time to escape or just live in general.
So my point is canon james was a bit of an asshole but he still did way more good deeds than Snape even though Snape was in all the seven books like one of the good things he did was literally the consequences of his own actions (healing draco).
All of this is canon btw. NONE of it is fanon.
sincerely keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth he did what should have been done.
cutie
let’s debunk some of these just for fun and for the education of others. let it be known that op likes regulus so clearly their post is meant to be taken lightly.
first, things op considered bad by snape:
-blood supremacist/called lily a slur
lets also take into account that he has been abused and mistreated by muggles his whole life so its not surprising that he would lean towards hating muggles not to mention that almost all of slytherin house (his peers and who he spends majority of his time with) were blood supremacists and could easily influence him further than his current beliefs and he called lily a slur in a heated moment after which hes apologized profusely for which lily in her right rejected.
this doesnt excuse his actions but clearly he’s regretted since.
-invented sectumsepmra
honestly hes a very bright student for creating a curse at such a young age. should we ask why he would feel so compelled to create such a gruesome curse? for his enemies specifically not for just anyone to use willy nilly for people who he considered enemies. how horribly was he treated by the marauders that he felt he needed to create such a curse to protect himself? lets also note that he never used it against the intended anyway.
-joined death eaters
well, yes. as ive stated before it was were he lied politically based off of his own personal past experiences. an action of his that he spent the rest of his life repenting for and sacrificing himself for. that was how much he wanted to change.
-wanted to save lily only
well, he couldnt ask voldemort to save harry could he? voldemort would kill him on the spot. why would he ask to save harry? even asking dumbledore he couldn’t ask to save harry because just asking dumbledore for help was asking for too much especially because he was on the other side of the war until then. he had one life save and he chose lily because lily meant the most to him.
-george’s missing ear
well, hes alive isnt he?
- outed remus as a werewolf
he was well within his rights to do so. remus was a danger to the students and proved to be so after almost attacking the golden trio. had remus been able to control himself and taken his wolfsbane before going to the shrieking shack, he never wouldve turned into a werewolf and almost killed the kids. i love remus but thsi is completely on him. this has been twice now that severus found remus to be extremely dangerous at the shrieking shack.
-bullied children / was neville’s bogart
he was definitely not made for the occupation he also didnt choose it. as for neville’s boggart it could easily be debunked as a similar boggart to hermione. his fear to fail in snape’s class not necessarily that snape is threatening him or hurting him. as for the toad he never said he would be the one to kill it he only said that next time neville made his potion he should be confident enough to feed it to his pet then see if it lives. which is hilarious. as for hermione idk about the teeth thing but he dislikes how by the book she is. she is smart but she recites books word for word and follows them to a tee. severus the owner of harry’s potion’s book is clearly a figure it out and understand the content yourself because books are not always trustworthy. i personally agree. a true scholar would seek their own answer with the logic to back it up.
*we’ll be skipping the good that severus snape did because the list would simply be too long
next, things considered bad by james:
-snivelus
personally i like the nickname bc i think its cute and a little funny
-bullied snape
lets also include that he sexually assaulted him. belittled, demeaned him his whole hogwarts career from the moment they met because…? because. they barely talked and he just decided to make severus’s life more difficult. severus who was abused and neglected at home and now abused at school. had james chose to befriend him instead you cant help but wonder if everything would be different. instead he chose to torment severus for no reason other than that he was close to lily and didnt like muggles and was a slytherin.
lets also add to this list:
-got his family killed
in the middle of a war he decided it would be a great idea to … celebrate halloween where stangers are disguised and come to knock on your door for candy. not to mention that his own child specifically is being targeted. yet he left his wand on the couch and let voldemort into his home to kill his wife and child. at what point was this brave of him to do? why didnt they come up with a plan b or c? why would they just trust peter despite originally only trusting sirius who didnt want the responsibility and lumped it onto the only other person in their friend group. young and dumb and because of his actions and carelessness and arrogance he is dead and can never redeem himself except through harry.
finally, things considered good by james:
-animagus
this was actually really sweet but illegal and irresponsible. anything for moony. except trust.
-took in sirius black
sirius wasnt even abused. he left that house out of his own free will because he thought he was better than them and disagreed with them politically. and it wasnt up to james sirius came to him and it was up to fleamont and euphemia to take sirius in. james was just there.
-stopped the prank
actually he saved remus. lets not say james suddenly had a change of heart and cared for severus’s wellbeing. he did it because if severus died remus will be sent to azkaban. its obvious because even after the prank and severus’s near death experience, they continue to bully and torment him which led to the drift between severus and lily.
-died.
as i said and will say again. what about this is heroic? he gave lily two seconds to get to harry. like what was james going to do other than hold his hands up to try to stop voldy from entering. you have to be joking. stupidest way to die. could’ve cheked the peephole maybe.
respectfully, why would people stan a man who lived his whole life being an asshole never got to become better and died the most ridiculous death in harry potter history! other than befriending remus despite his infliction what had james potter done that could make him so lovable? what do people see in him? respectfully, he was the worst bully in the whole series and never showed regret for it.
people do not like canon james. they like this completely new different character they created who was a bully for right reasons (?) (there are never right reasons to be a bully) and is silly and goofy and basically a marysue. you do not like james potter. you like an oc, that you created to fit your narrative.
james is meant to be a lesson to harry. thats it. a lesson that even people you think are good can be bad. its the very lesson sirius told him that every person can be good or bad and has the choices. its a welcome to the world of grey (the correct one, not the story). its to teach harry to be understanding (something a lot of you snape haters dont seem to get apparently). to let him know that the world is not black and white. and severus taught harry that people can change. that he doesn’t have to let his hurt carry on with him because he will hurt others. that holding onto love to the very end could make you a better person. that being kind can change someones life (that ones also from lily).
so yeah. why stan james potter when severus snape is right there? a very human and complex person who tried his whole life to right his one wrong. you dont have to like him or ignore all the bad things he’s done to make him likable. you just have to understand that hes not simply good or bad he’s interesting. unlike james who was an asshole, helped create harry, then died… essentially.
its upsetting that marauders fans would not only dimish snape’s experiences of being bullied and abused (at home and school) but also blame him for it? saying he deserved it or ‘who else would do it?’
it’s all a joke to you lot but sev does not need to be your villain/foil so u could praise your version of james potter. no one is ever deserving of being bullied (which was the main point of op’s post in the first place)
Since it's posted by someone who ships Jegulus, Regulus as in a canon OC, no wonder the posts as well as op's lacking brain cells, are clearly indicated by the loosely strewn facts that they submitted here as canon evidence that they probably read in fics.
What about the 'sexual assault' incident that occured in Snape's worst memory that James was clearly excited to remove his underpants in front of the entire people gathered there. Very convenient to leave those details out from the list of bad stuff that James has done.
I seriously wonder do you guys even love James as claim to be. Like as much as you claim you love him as a character but you feel the need to change every aspect of his character then you don't love that character.
You love an OC you created that happens to share the same name with a canon character since you can't handle the fact that the character you love has nuances that you can't woobi-fy.

snupin fic recs!
i was asked in the tags of a recent post if i can share some snupin fic recs, and i’m very much obsessed with this ship, so the amount of fics i’ve read is big. but i tried to recall some that might make the experience of reading of this couple pleasant for anyone who isn’t into it very much. i hope it helps ♡

@safeplacesnupin
Snupin fics I am so in love with this rec list right now!!! I am reading the midnight in the bowler and it's so good.
so many harry potter fans completely erase snape's past and write it over to make him a snobby rich kid who speaks like he's 40 year old count and i think it is so interesting.
because it proves to me that the reality of snape being a kid living in a poverty stricken and abusive household on spinner's end makes you all uncomfortable.
i sure know it made me uncomfortable to re-read the books for the first time and see all the comments about his greasy hair and sallow skin with the new knowledge that these were markers of his poor upbringing. we've heard the saying how being poor never really goes away. snape keeping these two markers as an adult is the author's way of doing it. he's an adult with a better income now but he never quite shakes off spinner's end.
he also stays there as an adult as a way to punish himself, if the front room described as a 'padded cell" is any indicator. he can't move on and he won't allow himself to, and dumbledore won't allow it either. it is he who twists the knife with harry's eyes and tells him this is the only thing he can do to prove he truly loved lily. despite you know, dumbledore apparently not believing this due to his shock at snape's patronus 17 years later.
both times in snape's past when he butts heads with petunia is because she insults his background, something he cannot control. she calls him the 'snape boy' from spinner's end, a clearly 'turn up my nose' moment. harry goes through most books referring to snape as 'snape' because snape is a bully and therefore does not have harry's respect. many times adults correct him to say professor. and his first name isn't said often. so this puts a distance to him, almost others him to this 2D character. but 'snape' is an actual person, with feelings and a past, present and future. so severus snape doesn't take kindly to people insulting his family which is why he claps back at petunia.
we also know snape is a muggle name, his muggle father tobias' name. we only find out in book 6 that snape is a half blood. because what wizarding family do you know with the name 'snape'. and prince isn't part of the sacred 28 either. when harry breaks into snape's memories accidentally in occlumency, seeing those three quick snapshots of his life, it's the first time snape starts to become a real person to harry.
moreover, 8 year old snape is described as dirty, unwashed, wearing clothes that are so mismatched it looks deliberate. he hasn't got clothes of his own, wearing an adults jacket and a woman's smock. snape's family either cannot afford to properly clothe or wash their child or they simply don't care too. when petunia insults him again, this time instead of his father she goes for his mother, as she points out snape wearing his mother's blouse, we get another example of underage magic as he causes a tree branch to fall on her.
now despite this, we know it is likely snape really did want to cause her harm due to her insult. snape already is shown to have poor social skills and snaps rather quickly at any point of animosity, but he was also raised in an abusive household. his father whipped him, and shouted at his mother and god knows what else. makes sense that an 8 year old responds to tension with either insults or violence, mirroring his home. snape is also very reluctant to talk about his homelife at all, ending the conversation very pointedly with "he doesn't like anything much." so it's not surprising that a child raised in this kind of environment would respond violently. even worse, he does it without really realising what he has done considering he looked confused when petunia and lily ran away.
on platform 9 and 3/4, snape is eager to get out of his muggle clothes and when put next to james potter, the stark difference between someone who has been loved and adored and someone who hasn't is explicitly put in the books. and lastly when snape calls lily a mudblood after being yanked upside down exposing dirty underwear, lily points that out. her way of saying 'don't you dare say you are better than me - im filthy? how about you wash your clothes.'
all in all, i think the fans write over this backstory because people do not want to give snape any sympathy. he's not the right kind of sympathetic character. he's an unpleasant adult who made terrible decisions. therefore his tragedy doesn't count. it's much easier to hate him when in your head, snape is a rich, snobby supremacist, rather than a penniless, neglected and woefully misguided teenager.
odd that peope can understand the impact of certain characters childhoods like sirius, regulus, draco or harry and how it affected their actions as teens and later adults...
but not snape.
in fact, snape is probably the poorest character in the entire series apart from maybe voldemort, although the orphanage didn't seem underfunded or anything. fans characterise lupin as poor but there is little evidence for him being poor as a child, more as an adult. i've seen people say this was because of the fact that his father worked at the ministry and arthur weasley worked there and he is not rich but the weasley's are poor because there are 7 of them living on one income. and we can assume lupin's muggle mother worked. if anything, lupin's childhood was comfortable but became unstable due to them constantly moving after he was bitten.
abd that's pretty much it, we don't know too much about anyone else. the dursleys are middle class as are hemrione's dentist parents and while the weasley's are poor, they are not poverty stricken - ron never goes hungry. snape also never really adresses his muggle past either. he doesnt bring it up ever. for all his 'life is unfair', he never speaks about that part of his life, choosing to solely reference the marauders. and the two main bullies, james and sirius both being rich kids bullying the poor boy is not lost on me. especially when they constantly reference his greasy hair all the time.
poverty greatly affects a person well into adulthood and we see with snape; it never really goes away. sure he's well spoken now, and doesn't wear mismatched muggle clothing but the remnants are still there. in fact, one of the reasons he hates harry intially is because he thinks the boy has been pampered. quite unlike his upbringing. so i think it's telling how many people refuse to acknowledge its very existence or the how it shaped snape as a person.
becuase i think it all makes you feel really uncomfortable. why else would you ignore or completely erase it?
And the most obvious piece of evidence that Severus was horribly abused as a child is an article on Potermore tha states as a fact that his father never held back from whipping him.
Sometimes I legitimately forget that not everybody is a Snape Understander until I see some Tik Tok bullshit and start banging my head on the wall like?? Who tf are the Slytherin Skittles? Why are there Barty Crouch Jr. stans? “At least he didn’t bully kids” he used the Imperius Curse on students???
Also the way they call anyone who dislikes Marauders fanon a “JKR stan.” Excuse me, I’ve disliked JKR for years. If they’re allowed to reclaim the Marauders as their own then we’re allowed to reclaim Snape as our own. Stop trying so hard to look like an activist over a character preference, it’s making you stupid. Also how come they can disregard canon and anything that makes their faves look bad while stanning background DEs like Evan Rosier and Regulus Black but the second someone likes Snape it’s “but what about the time that he XYZ!! You can’t ignore canon!” And then the second you present a canon based counter argument it’s “who even cares about canon anymore!” My love of Snape is based in canon and expanded upon in fanon, which I think is normal and reasonable.
TikTok opinions are an affront to common sense. And yeah, JKR has literally been my enemy since I finished the HP books in highschool and I graduated in 2013. But yeah, now that it's cool and popular people act like if you don't agree with their toxic opinions then they can just be like "wow you support JKR" like no.
Insane marauders fans use canon only when it benefits them, and when it doesn't they use that badly written popular fanfic instead.
Also sorry, I wasn't ignoring you but I mostly use mobile and didn't see this ask lol.
I think the worst part of this is New Remus™️ stans, because they’ll say shit like “I love Remus Lupin because he’s a mean punk icon who doesn’t care what people think of him” when Remus is actually uhhh… quite the opposite. Canon Remus is desperate to be liked to such a great extent that he’ll throw his morals out the window to avoid rocking the boat. He’s mild mannered and likes to fly under the radar. I love him, but he’s kind of a coward. I know ATYD made him into a massive edgelord (for better or for worse), but imo I don’t think that ATYD!Remus stans can claim to actually like Remus when the character presented in ATYD is nothing like Remus Lupin. This is coming from someone who’s loved him since I was 12.
Also, you know who IS a mean punk icon? You know who DOESN’T care what people think of him? Severus Tobias Snape. But as soon as we like the character who actually possesses the qualities they want for their fave everyone clutches their pearls. Can they just admit that they actually do find him cool but think he’s too poor and ugly and that’s why they steal his most important character traits and accomplishments and project them onto other characters and will stan characters who did worse things than him but are described as more conventionally attractive and wealthy? They love Snape’s autistic punk bisexual femme coded he/they mean genius working class hero ass but they’ll never admit it.
I think if I saw someone describe Remus Lupin as a mean punk icon who doesn't care what others think of him I'd astral project so hard that I'd single-handedly make shifting a real thing and not just TikTok mental illness, lmao.
