As I see it there are three fundamental causes of suffering: evil, stupidity, and negligence. Evil and negligence are usually relatable to but I find the third one is often neglected in popular conceptions, no pun intended. “Stupidity” here is more like the causes of unintentional rather than intentional suffering: suffering which wouldn’t exist if some party involved had knowledge or wisdom which they currently lack. Unlike the other two, though, it doesn’t necessarily have a single root because different people have different knowledge and wisdomes. And often it’s mitigated rather than eliminated by having more knowledge: learning something new often removes one cause of suffering but another may still exist because you haven’t learned yet another thing. It’s important to notice this cause of suffering so you can try to prevent it rather than just resigning yourself to the perpetuation of suffering you have seen but not understood

Sitting in the dining hall yesterday I overheard a conversation between two girls, one of whom was mine, and in fact had been previously, “known as” as a girlfriend, I think I can fairly say girlfriend, and the other was an acquaintance. The latter was saying something like “oh I’ve been really tired and stressed recently” and the former said “well you’re no longer as tired as [my name] because she’s finalizing her thesis” and the former motioned to me. I did my best to not appear interested in my food for a moment

I’ve thought about having a tumblr bot account that idles in groups of people with mutual tumbler interests (like say dragon tumblr) and occasionally interjects with “as a tumblr bot”. Sometimes I think about doing this and it amuses me. However I spent several hours the other day going through followers of followers of accounts I liked to find people with similar interests to add on Steam, and I discovered that nearly all of them… have nobody added on Steam. Even close friends accounts. Nobody on tumblr adds anybody else on Steam. So I can’t see people on tumblr in their natural layer of course. Which sucks

Courtroom drama is so tedious for the people involved even when they love justice and doing their job it’s so tedious but for the people involved. The elegance and meaningfulness of the art is damn near incomprehensible to the average viewer, and the average viewer is almost the only one whose opinion matters since this is entertainment. And the average viewer finds it all so tedious.

After my spring break dream (which, to remind you, was a fully coherent and connected narrative of ideas and images that seemed to be the “real life” to the person dreaming it, which, upon waking, I verified, was incorrect, but which was indistinguishable from actual life in the content of the dream), I had a very dark dream of terrible suffering. A waking friend of mine verified the suffering was in fact terrible. And I was no longer in a position to consider dreams as suffering. I know it was suffering but it doesn’t feel bad to me…It was very evil. Are there any rules against posting about my dreams on Tumblr… in my capacity as a Dreamer… there was suffering… I guess it’s ok. It feels a bit like reporting on my day but it was not a day it was a Dream…

When I was a kid I had this lobster magnet on my fridge, and my sister and I made up a game with it. The game was that it told you people’s moods: if the lobster was upright and facing you, it meant the person was good-tempered, if the lobster was turned away, it meant the person was having a bad day. It was basically like a mood ring, but lobsters. There was no real explanation for why the magnet changed based on people’s moods, it just did. If my sister and I hadn’t been using it as a game, I probably would’ve thought it was a, like, mood indicator type thing, genuinely.
