scattered showers by rainbow rowell for my short story collection- a series of romance short stories, i got this on an extreme discount and loved it. i’ve been reading rainbow rowell books and comics since i was in middle school, i love her writing style. it never fails to delight me that all of her books are somehow related to omaha nebraska

highfire by eoin colfer for mc isn’t human- another childhood favorite author, i was obsessed with artemis fowl in elementary school. this book was a bit less fantasy and more realism, but the characters were about as fleshed out as the ones from his children’s books. felt a bit too much like those carl hiaasen novels about saving florida, except it wasn’t really about the environment.

villa coco by andrew sean greer for literary fiction- the most i paid for any book on this list! greatly enjoyed this book, made me laugh out loud a few times. this is a book i can see adding to my tote bag rotation of books to reread.

the wood at midwinter by susanna clarke for historical fantasy- probably technically a novella rather than a novel, clarke’s style of prose really works for me, i love reading her author’s notes almost as much as her stories themselves. also, it is always clear she has done a great deal of research into the small details for a very historically accurate story.

the latehomecomer by kao kalia yang for cultural nonfiction- really fantastic novel, i borrowed a copy from my cousin and discussed it with him, reminded me how much more i get out of a book by discussing it with someone as i read it.
