Everything about the North was so different from his life at home. There, the weather was warmer, and there were always so many people about. Life at Kingâs Landing or even Dragonstone tended to suffocate him, but in Winterfell, there was a beauty to the barren landscape around him. It felt like her could finally breathe without someone baring down his neck for one reason or another. But the most important difference between the North and everywhere else was that Maya was at the North. A bright smile was on his face as he wrapped his arms around her in a tight embrace, lifting her off the ground a little so he could twirl them around. âIâve missed you,â he said into her ear as he set her feet back on the ground. âI hope I wasnât disturbing anything important. My brothers were in a stupid war meeting and I had to take any opportunity I could to get away.â It was surprisingly easy for him to go by unnoticed by all except the Kingâs Guard who were there to shadow and protect him. On the days of war meetings, his guards were usually distracted enough for Niko to slip away before they noticed that the young prince had escaped. And once he was gone, nothing could stop him from getting on Windâs back and taking off. He pulled away from Maya and looked up at the impressive Winterfell. âI swear this place looks better every time I see it. I bet itâs because they finally have you in charge of everything.â
A soft laugh escaped her lips when she felt herself being lifted off the ground, only encouraging her to hold on to him even tighter before realizing that she could stay like this forever and not letting him go ever again. She smiled at his words, still embracing him before shaking her head gently. âNot as much as I missed you.â she said in return before finally letting go of him and grinning playfully at their little game of who missed whom more. A game that Maya claimed to win every time. At the mention of his brothers, Maya couldnât help herself but frown a little. Truth be told, her frown wasnât nearly as dark as that of the other Northeners but it certainly did the trick in expressing how much she disliked the thought of his brother. âAgainst whom do they want to wage war this time?â the brunette asked, almost unfazed by his comment, considering that it was already known that not all Targaryens were as peaceful as Niko. In fact, most of them werenât. And she didnât want to think about what their world might look like if any other than Niko had gotten Wind. âOnly temporarily. And I wouldnât want it any other way.â she returned with a warm smile before looking over at Wind. âHave you told him to stay away from the sheep? And the horses? They act insane when he gets too close to them.â Maya asked and eyed Niko with a raised brow yet her smile didnât falter.
