More scene and character artwork for my series Dreamwar. Artwork done by birb-o-fluff as always. This would be the second-to-last scene of episode 2, where we see what Mepria sees when she happens to look south-southwest during dusk while at the Sleetfjord harbor. Amidst the withdrawn, disconnected state she has been in since leaving her homeland behind and coming to Denali, she experiences a rare moment of actual surprise and wonder. Here she sees aeroplanes in the sky in-person for the first time.
Since the world Dreamwar is set in is roughly equivalent to the early-mid 1920s, similar to how it was at the time in our reality, the fact that “flying machines” were a legitimate thing that existed had become common knowledge, but things were not yet at a point where everyone had seen them or was used to having them around.
Actually seeing them in-flight herself leads her to inquire to go with Elemme to the airfield where Andim, Ash and Ban are training, and eventually to become a biplane pilot herself as the war begins.
General series info : Taking place in a different world from our own, one where both humans and anthro animals, called "uprights", exist. Set in a timeframe technologically equivalent to the early 1920s, and with a global war looming on the immediate horizon. Humans are more dominant globally simply owing to fact, in the end, that different human groups can all interbreed while differing species Uprights cannot, so humans almost always had a numbers advantage in most scenarios. Some nations are equal for all, many are “humans first”, some are “humans only”, and others are either “Uprights first” or “Uprights only.” However, despite the human vs upright angle being the one many governments and their people lean on the most, looking past the supposed “us vs them” solidarity will reveal discrimination between individual races of humans against each other, and likewise between differing upright species.
