HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELVIS PRESLEY!
Although he’s been dead for nearly forty years, Elvis fans celebrate his birthday like he’s still around. (And who knows? Maybe he still is.) Besides the Elvis impersonators, the birthday celebration at Graceland and the endless musical tributes, Elvis is remembered all over the country in statue form. There’s the two Elvis statues located in his birthplace of Tupelo, Mississippi. One depicts Elvis as a young boy holding his first guitar, while the other shows him reaching out to touch the hands of adorning fans when he returned to his hometown in 1956. And it wouldn’t be “Viva Las Vegas” without an Elvis statue (this one I’ve actually seen in person), which is located in front of the Hilton where Elvis performed 837 consecutive sold-out concerts in front 2.5 million people (take that, Britney!) Oh, we can’t forget the Hawaiian Elvis in Oahu, considering Aloha from Hawaii was the first satellite concert watched by some 1 and 1.5 billion viewers worldwide. There are a few more Elvis statues I’ve left out (like the one in Memphis for instance) but it doesn’t matter, I think you get it.
