Mat Wilson - VisCom

Overall I feel the outcome has been successful and i have produce a concept expressing design with really visually pleasing imagery. 

The concept for my final outcome started out with the previous idea of ‘In the mind of a designer’ but upon developing I decided to focus more on the idea of adaptability. Felix is a really adaptive designer and his thought process is the same. Having such an adaptive style made me think that his approach to each project would be quite versatile and I chose to represent this by displaying a range of making and creative tools of which he might use in the various stages of developing his ideas. To do this I displayed objects through Knolling. I came up with the idea after researching swiss style and contemporary design. Knolling links to these two design genres due to its strong use of grid, structural rules and its incorporation of shape and white space. Knolling does exactly this as after composing the objects, shapes are created through the laying out of artefacts and really interesting white space between said shapes naturally occurs. 

Incorporating my new images into the previous layout. From my referral I was given positive feedback regarding my typesetting and layout. With this in mind i decided to keep the layout but tweak and change a few minor details in order to make the hierarchy of text work and for the imagery to fit with the feel of the layout.

Combining the new image making with the old. Although I had discussed in the tutorial that the work I had done was a bit to much of literal approach I felt that once seeing the images i had taken of mixing ink and water these circles, that where made the filled bowls, would be a perfect texture for the previously design sphere/circle imagery.

I am still sticking with a CMYK theme with colour experiments as i still feel it is relevant to creating a contemporary feel and also feel that it links well to Felix’s work process. Also Linking to the circle imagery I made previously.

Using the Knolling method I have attempted to recreate some of the previous images i had made. The circle for me really brings the Knolling method into the realm of the swiss style. 

Some close ups of the knolling layout. Its interesting to see them upclose as you can begin to pick out shapes of white space around the objects. it may be interesting to find layout ideas within this.

It, in my opinion also shows a clear link to Felix’s roots in swiss style and contemporary design due to the aesthetic and process links that i have described about knolling and the two styles of design in a previous blog. 

Here are some excellent examples of knolling. I feel that any designer can really appreciate the formality and the tidy aesthetic which is created when knolling. The uniform alignment bring a real sense of comfort to myself and i’m sure many other designers would agree. In a way knolling is a form of curating.
