"I canât communicate with the dead," Qui-Gon said in his low voice.  "Thatâs something Iâm told youâre rather good at."  This was the hard part.  The story never got easier so he kept it brief, not that he had ever been much of a pontificator.  "My apprentice, a boy named Obi-Wan Kenobi was shot on a mission, he fell from a very great height and I need to speak to him.  To see if we can bind his spirit to his body once more or ifâŚit is time to let him go."
Ghosts. A bucket of cold water couldnât have snapped him out of the haze any faster than Qui-Gonâs words did. âMan, ghosts are tricky,â he said, rubbing the back of his neck. âEven spiritsâŚtricky. Out of their body? Tricky. If the reapers havenât claimed âem yet - if heâs wanderinâ around, he could be stuck. I mean, thereâs shit -â he paused, âSorry. Stuff that you can do that you might be able to talk to âem, but ââ he didnât want to say that he couldnât help, but he was limited by what he could do. âIâd have to see him. I have books I could look through. Maybe somethinâ in my dadâs journal could help.â
"Tricky or no, I would appreciate your help," Qui-Gon said softly, seeming somewhat relieved. Â "The healers have fixed his body, but say there is no spirit left to pull back into consciousness." Â He himself had been unable to reach even a glimmer of their bond, which he had felt snap as the Obi-Wan's head had connected with the unforgiving dura-crete. Â He closed his eyes briefly at the painful memory. Â "How soon can you be ready?"
