you think pluribus can't get any more disturbing when you're presented with the idea of humanity becoming part of a blissful hivemind that wants the few stragglers left to join them, and then episode four smashes a barrel over your head with the realization that for carol, the entire world has suddenly reverted into what was the worst experience of her life. a conversion camp full of saccharine smiles with the sole purpose of making her assimilate. fuck

Wait hold on I just read the ask about what if hgh Alastor was the one to recognize Vox first and how he teases him a bit before revealing the truth and that's just freaking hilarious to me. Like Alastor suddenly stopping the fight and saying something that was clearly flirty, and Vox has a record scratch moment trying to comprehend what is happening and reevaluating all past interactions. Was this guy sizing him up through fights all this time not as an enemy but as a potential romantic partner? Did he pass? Fuck! How does one reject the most powerful sinner's advances?? And wait, double fuck, how can does he explain it to HIS Al if a rumor of this interaction reaches him before Vox can? Would Aleister try to kill Alastor? How powerful is his husband right now?? And meanwhile Alastor is looking at Vox have a conniption due to a thousand possibilities going a mile a minute in his mind and trying not to laugh and give himself away immediately hdkzgJsvsh
even tho the moment would only last like 3 minutes its still a really funny idea to me. tragic its not canon
People really need to take a wider view of this paranoia about age gaps and realise this is how we lose the ability to build communities. You need to be able to realise that people can have things in common with you even if they grew up in a different time/place/culture. You also need to realise you can build communities with people who donât have obvious things in common with you, that people can have the same goals and needs as you even if in most ways theyâre very unlike you. Now, more than ever, we need to be able to work together to have any chance to stand ip against the few who have so, so much more power, money and influence than any of us do individually. We need to form communities that reach across age (and class and race and sexuality and so onâŚ).
This is one of those topics I feel very strongly about and agree completely with the points in this post.
I struggle to make fandom friends on Tumblr, and sometimes I worry that it is because people in their 20s think they can't be friends with someone in their 40s. That I'm uncool, weird, cringe, intimidating, or just too different from them.
But things don't change as much with age as most think. Older people still are silly, awkward, overwhelmed, enthusiastic, confused, playful, irresponsible, obsessive, dumb, cool, horny, and all these other things young people think we stop feeling or being as we get older. We're just humans. I am really great friends with someone on here more than 20 years younger than me because we have so much in common! You can't tell that we're different ages when we chat.
And alsoâyou can be friends with people who you do NOT have much in common with! Because fundamentally, you always have humanity in common.
Years ago, there was this lady in my community who was maybe 30 years older than me and who I knew was far more conservative than me. I dismissed her as someone I didn't want to spend any time with because she was obviously too different than me. But, I was forced to spend some time with her (long story), and guess what? I became really good friends with her! Because I found out I was wrong about all those things that made her different than me? NO! I was right about thatâshe was just as annoyingly conservative as I had suspected. BUT that wasn't the whole of her person. She was so much richer than that. There were lots of things I didn't know about her. A few of those things were commonalities, but overall, we still didn't have much in commonâbut that didn't matter. We could still be kind to each other, help each other, respect each other, even enjoy each other's company if we stuck to topics where we didn't clash too badly. I feel really bad for judging her, and I'm so glad I gave her a chance.
So yes, please make friends with people who are not your same age. You probably have more in common than you think, and even if you don't, that doesn't matter. We're all humans and we need each other. Our communities need us to get along.

Alastor's side: Season 1 Episode 2, Stayed Gone Close Reading
So in s102 Radio Killed the Video Star, we first see how Al reacts to enemies he doesn't care about, aka Sir Pentious.
When Sir Pentious shows up to his pet project with a giant death machine, tries to kill him and blows the walls off his establishment, he pretends he doesn't remember him, and beats him and his death machine up while laughing. He's not bothered at all, until Pentious rips his coat. Even after that, he brushes it off.
When Vox talks a bit of shit about him, here's his immediate reaction:
(cutting off the full smile because that's his default expression)
Alastor's feelings are always in his eyes, and that expression is definitely not the unbothered look he had when Sir Pentious blew up his establishment and tried to kill him. Nope. That's angry and legitimately bothered.
What was Vox saying that set him off?
(Warning this is really long and really detailed)
The whole thing is a duet, a paired set of verses that echo each other deliberately. Taking it line by line:
Well, Stayed Gone starts out with the line "I'm gonna make you wish that you'd stayed gone", which Alastor replies to with "I'm gonna make you wish that I'd stayed gone." The meaning of the two is subtle, but raises interesting implications. Vox is staying "I'm gonna make you regret coming back". Alastor is saying "I'm gonna make you miserable".
Then Vox says "Say hello to a new status quo", which Alastor replies to with "Your status quo will know its race is run". Vox is trying to put the message out there that "things are different now". Alastor replies "That different world you've made is going to come crumbling down".
Then, Vox goes on a tirade. He calls Alastor a "has-been", "a fossil", etc., basically trying to convey that Alastor is "part of the past". He tries to build himself up, and says "He should have stayed away". Then we cut to Alastor on the line "while he hid in radio, we pivoted to video".
Basically Vox's whole point he's trying to make is "I'm over you. You're lame and I don't care about you". It might not be insignificant that he says "We pivoted to video". It's actually on the words "WE pivoted" that Alastor has that glare expression.
And Vox's next line "Hell's been better since he split, now he's back, who gives a shit". Now obviously, this is bullshit. Vox says this while giving the most obvious shit in the universe. But still, Vox's intended message to Alastor in his first half of the song is "I don't want you around. I have a new life, you'd hardly recognize me, I'm so fine, how could a person like you bring me joy", that kind of vibe.
So it's interesting that Alastor then proceeds to do the exact same thing. Something people don't mention a lot about Stayed Gone is that Alastor's verses are a reflection of Vox's. It's easy to assume that Vox starts this beef because he cares too much. But Alastor then proceeds to echo his verses.
As if he feels the exact same way.
He has a bunch if paired lyrics. Let's look at em side by side.
VOX: Top of the hour, and we're discussing a certain has-been
Who has been spotted cavorting around town/After a seven-year absence. Did anybody miss him? Did anybody notice?
ALASTOR: Salutations, good to be back on the air. Yes, i know it's been a while since someone with style treated hell to a broadcast.
So Vox's insult is "you're a has-been and nobody cares that you've been gone". Alastor's first rebuttal is "you have no style" . They mirror each other's medium-style greetings, then proceed to loudly insult each other with "I don't need you loser".
Vox: So, the radio demon is back in town/Why is he hanging around?/ What does that mean for your family?/ Well handily, I've got good news/ He's a loser, a fossil and I don't mean to sound hostile
Alastor: Sinners rejoice! Instead of a clout-chasing mediocre video podcast...
So they then trade insults about each other's mediums, with the gist of Vox's still being "he's a loser" (There's that Word Again. "Loser Baby", "Show me you're not a loser", archetypal much?) and he's a part of the past. Aka. MY past.
Vox: But the demon is a coward!/You can take that as gospel
Alastor: Is Vox insecure (note: Everybody in the audience: YES.) Pursuing allure?
Followed by Vox calling Alastor a coward and Alastor calling Vox "insecure". Interestingly, I wonder if that insult hits Alastor quite as hard? Like, he did run away at the first sign of real trouble with Adam. I wonder if he feels that way some times.
Vox: Pulling my viewers? Impossible!/'m visual, he's barely audible/Stop givin' him the time of day/Don't listen to a word he'd say/I hope he had a nice vacay/But he should've stayed away
Alastor: Flitting between this fad and that, is nothin' working?/ /Every day, he's got a new format
Vox declares that Alastor won't "pull his viewers" and Alastor makes fun of his 'new format' and 'flitting between different fads'; typical of their 'new vs old' battle.
Then we get into the real meat of the whole thing.
Vox: While he hid in radio/We pivoted to video/Now his medium is gettin' bloody rare
Alastor: Is Vox as strong as he purports/Or is it based on his support? He'd be powerless without the other Vees
It's probably VERY important that "we pivoted to video" is paired up with Alastor's jab about "The Other Vees". Vox tells him "I've got a we, I've got a new team" and Alastor throws out for the first time his meaningless insult that he'd "be powerless without the other Vees", which is a wound he loves to smack all the time. Like, over and over again. He really has a hangup about Vox 'needing' Vel and Val, even though we know for a fact knows Vox is capable of becoming the strongest sinner in hell without them.
Why is Alastor so fixated on mocking Vox for needing Vel and Val? This dig isn't even to make him abandon them and become the strongest since he wasn't planning that at this point.
Then here's this exchange:
Vox: Hell's been better since he split/Where's he been?/Who gives a shit!
Alastor: And here's the sugar on the cream/He asked me to join his team/I said no, and now he's pissy, that's the tea
So this is interesting. Vox's message in this bar pairing was "Who gives a shit about you". Alastor's response is "You do. Remember? You asked me. You need me."
I think what sets Alastor off here, then, adding all these points up, why he says this, is that Vox tries to claim that he's over him and doesn't care that he's back. I mean, obviously that's not true, but we know that Alastor's biggest trigger is being ignored. It's the only thing that really upsets him, other than being in real danger. And obviously Vox isn't ignoring him. HE's the only one who actually gives a shit that he's back.
But he's trying to pretend he can. He's saying publicly "he's a fossil, there's a new status quo, we pivoted to video, who gives a shit". And I don;t think Alastor can even deal with Vox PRETENDING to be over him.
His entire message is "You're not over me. You're nothing without me. you need me. Don't ever forget you wanted me." ("You still need me like you did before" from the reprise, mm?)
Based on this I think it's safe to say that Alastor would not be happy if Vox ever actually got over him. He doesn't want Vox to ever get over him. He kinda feeds on all that attention (I'm not the first person to point that out). Even Vox trying ti imply that he's moved on prompts him to publicly out Vox for once wanting him. Whether it's about control or about twisted love. Al wants everyone and especially Vox to remember: You are never getting over me.
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
The thing a lot of people donât seem to get about Alastor and Voxâs dynamic is just how mutual it is. Iâm not strictly talking about feelings here, Iâm more referring to the fucked up parts of their relationship. Vox stalks Alastor, but Alastor knows about it and not only enjoys it, he counts on it. Alastor is dishonest and loves talking people into things, but Vox knows this and expects it. They enjoy hurting each other, but all of their fights across seventy years never resulted in the death of either of them (and if Alastorâs fighting style in the finale where he barely harmed Vox at all is any indication, their fights were likely games, and a mix of âpain and pleasure (but mostly pain)â for both of them). Vox ties Alastor to a chair, but given that Alastor has enough movement that he can do acrobatics on it and move across Vee tower, the binding is completely useless and only there to further this little game they have. Vox shocks Alastor, Alastor opens his legs to let Vox come closer at the end of donât you forget reprise.
Iâm just saying that the entirety of season 2 showed us just how much both of these characters enjoy (while still being harmed by) this little psychosexual game they have going on. If this moment didnât make you understand just how reciprocal their deal is, then you might need to watch the season again.
