               How? How did this happen? Why did this happen? Wasabi watched blankly as the sermon went on, just staring at were Fred lay still and cold. It was only when asked to speak did the neatnik pay attention. Of course, he waited for Fred’s father and mother to speak, then the rest of his friends. He didn’t want to, he didn’t know if he could, so why did he raise his hand to speak? Why did he walk up to the podium, so close to where Fred was? Why was he hunched over to reach the microphone…?

      “Fred, ah… Fred was… Far too good for us. He wasn’t a student, no, but he worked there. He was just so… fascinated with everything, always wanting us guys to work on some sci-fi experiment for him. Even if it couldn’t be done? He was…" Wasabi paused to chuckle and smile. "…a ‘science enthusiast’." Thank God some of the others laughed with him. "Yeah, he always managed to find a way to make us smile, to just amuse us in some way. He was always there to keep us up, keep us going, even in between all the sign-spinning and charity work and his own studying in English. He never stopped trying to keep things light, good… We didn’t deserve Fred. No one deserved a guy as wonderful as Fred was… We all loved him." Here came those tears and gasps. "I-I… I hope… I hope that he’s doing alright…”
