Part 7: Donât Look Away
Not awkward â heavy in the way storms leave the air charged.
Madison walks you back to your place without letting go of your hand once. Her thumb rubs slow circles against your skin, grounding, intentional. Like sheâs reminding you sheâs here. Like youâre not slipping away this time.
Inside, you drop your bag by the door.
You donât even get a chance to speak before she turns to you.
âSit,â she says softly.
Itâs not loud. Not sharp.
But something in her tone makes your breath catch.
You sit on the edge of the couch without thinking.
Madison stands in front of you, arms crossed loosely, studying you like sheâs deciding something important.
âYou donât get to decide what I can handle,â she says quietly. âOr what I deserve.â
You look down. âI justââ
âHey,â she interrupts, stepping closer. She tilts your chin up with two fingers, firm but gentle. âEyes on me.â
Her expression isnât angry. Itâs intense. Focused. Like all of her attention is right here.
âI choose you,â she says. âEvery time you try to make yourself smaller, youâre choosing for me. Donât.â
She leans in until youâre close enough to feel her warmth.
âDo you understand?â she asks.
âYes,â you say softly. âI understand.â
Her lips curve into a small, satisfied smile.
She kisses you like sheâs done waiting.
Not rushed â deliberate. One hand cups the back of your neck, the other resting on your knee, thumb pressing just enough to keep you still. Her mouth moves against yours with confidence, with heat, like she knows exactly what sheâs doing to you.
You gasp quietly, and she pulls back just a fraction.
âStay,â she murmurs against your lips.
Her forehead rests against yours, breath uneven now.
âGod,â she whispers, smiling like sheâs enjoying how flustered you are. âYou have no idea how hard it is not to overwhelm you.â
Your voice comes out shaky. âYouâre doing a terrible job.â
She laughs softly, then kisses you again â slower this time, deeper, hand sliding to your waist like it belongs there.
When she finally pulls away, she presses one last kiss to your jaw.
âI donât need you perfect,â she says. âI need you present.â
She leans back just enough to look at you.
âAnd youâre not allowed to disappear on me again.â
Thereâs no question in it.
âGood,â she says, brushing her thumb over your lip. âBecause Iâm not done choosing you.â
