She waited for sometime, evidently the question had thrown off the Red Woman. In the end, Mara pulled back as the answer had thrown her for a surprise the way the question had done for Lexa. Peace among everyone. That sounded very diplomatic. Regal. Mara is almost certain that their High Queen could have, would have, said something to that effect.  “That is a lofty kind of wish.” Noble, even. Yes. It is a noble sounding kind of thing to want. Just as it sounded rather sad to feel as if one lacked a purpose and calling. In the end, is it truly what Lexa wanted or was she playing it safe and parroting someone else? 

Lexa made a face at Mara. Was it? A loft sort of wish? Was it so taboo to believe that such a thing could be accomplished? Lexa knew in her life time, she would not be able to complete her mission, yet if she was to find followers, and they were able to continue her legacy, then within some time, the world could see a better life. “One only needs to have hope. If they are able to plant the seed in others, much can be accomplished.” To Lexa, violence was never the first answer, even if she was as great as a warrior as any other here thanks to the commander’s private lessons. Not that many would know if it.

“I should think that if you stand for those, that your heart, conscience and soul are in the right place.” One could die in peace, with such morals.

“I would have to agree so.” It seemed many, if not almost all, of the women on the island agreed with the saying. The believed in each other and being loyal to their queen. 

“It is a great honor,” Mara began to reply. “My mother, and her mother before her were. It is our trade.” It is the same line she has told many a persons who asked. It is a noble, honorable kind of answer. At least Mara would like to think so, and it is in part, mostly the truth. She wanted to continue to honor their name, the position came with the association that she would be closer to her dead mother this way.

“Family honor and duty then.” Lexa very well understood her train of thought in becoming a Night Blood. Lexa only wished that she had some sort of calling, some path to follow on. She was found by Camilla, taken to their queen and suddenly named her adviser. It had happened all so fast that she never truly understood what is was she wanted. 

“Very much so,” a heart was a heavy burden and there was nothing nearly as difficult as being groomed since coming of age to be a Night’s Blood. But it is not nearly as hard as loosing a mother, loosing an adoptive mother after that. Truth is that Mara would happily weather any amount of training for just a day or two with her own.

Lexa turned on her heel half way as she stretched her right hand out towards the path away from the rest of the Night Bloods. She smiled briefly, waiting for the other to follow before she let her arms drop to her side. Lexa walked in silence for a short moment until they were out of earshot of any others.

Catching Up || Lexa and Mara || September 5

Mara lazily re-corded a bit of leather around her braid, it had become stressed during her training. The gesture was accompanied with the slightest little noise from the soft tin bells she wore as part of the regimen, ideally one was to be so quiet that the bells in their air would not make a sound.

Lexa’s eyes went to Mina’s braid. Many of the women here wore their hair as such, in a variety of style. Her own at the moment was worn down with a small twisted braid in the center. The bell jingled quietly, taking Lexa’s attention for a brief moment.
