Whatever randomly occurs

Last year I wrote a couple of blogs as an accountant swapping from the ubiquitous Windows laptop to a Mac Book Air. The Mac is the best laptop I’ve ever had, but the faff of making it work with slow clumpy Microsoft based applications, even through Parallels, means its not the answer for everyone.

I’ve had loads of mobiles, including two BlackBerrys and I’m now on my third iPhone with the new 5s, which is fantastic.

However, I get bored and had thought I might get an Android phone for a change, but it was never really going to happen. The Samsung S4 looked appealing, but EE seemed so over keen to give it to me on a free upgrade before the new iPhone came out, it put me off.

I’m an Apple convert and there was no way I was going to turn to the dark side with an Android. Or was there a way? My old iPad 2 seemed to be running slow so perhaps since they cost a whole lot less, I should get an Android tablet? Just to suss out Android.

Research came up with two alternatives, the new Google Nexus 7 or the even newer and not yet released Kindle HDX. The reviews seemed 50/50 and since we use Google calendar at Dafferns and the Kindle uses a version of Android where the N7 uses proper Android, the N7 it would be.

So Friday last week, I bought a Google Nexus 7 32GB and this week I’m on holiday and having a play with it. Part 2 will follow. What’s Android like? How does the N7 compare to the 5s and the iPad 2?
