First of all, I could have been talking about killing the female love interest, not him. The wording in the original post was deliberately ambiguous. But then if I did that, you'd probably be accusing me of misogyny??

dubcon week was a joke when i first brought it up and while it became less and less of a joke i really did not think there was any world in which it went this well. i really thought that like maybe three or four other people would throw something into the collection, and that it might make a couple more think more clearly about those lines of consent that they draw in their fics, and instead during the event 19 fics were posted to the collection totally 80k words across them and that is truly like mind boggling and nothing that i would have guessed or imagined.

i have been asked how the fic week went by friends outside of this fandom and how it feels to have run such successful event and every time i don't know how to respond because i really did not expect anything at all to come from this, and instead it got this turn out that kind of makes me feel light and fluttery with this idea of "oh, people liked this," and that's really something. Someone replied to that sentiment when i shared it with, "I think a lot of credit goes to you, as a well loved author on tumblr and discord servers! You should be so so proud" and that sentiment was agreed with in a way that really only furthered that fluffy feeling that people liked this event and the fics that people posted for it, and that any amount of that was at all to do with my running it.

i am almost always filled with love for this fandom and this community but that is really something else entirely.

a spotlight on some of my favourite fics for the collection (i loved all of these and picking favourites was hard but i wanted to spotlight a few in this post so i had to pick)

THE EMPEROR'S GIFT - @marrys-dream-world's alt on the ending of LN1, and Maomao being purchased for Jinshi to spend a night with as a gift and the way that ties in with how Yang see showing love to those around him and his ideas of how Jinshi should do the same, and the way that butts heads with how Jinshi doesn't want to take Maomao's autonomy and options.

DYING FOR IT - areyouabadwolf2 is one of my favourite jinmao fic writers and their version of a full on fuck or die was really great to read! we have a lot of aphrodisiac fics but very few true fuck or die and the way they were able to mix it with her pursuit of jade obsession was delicious but i also adore any fic in which Maomao seeks out Jinshi on her own to deal with a situation like this!

THE WIDTH OF A DOOR - YoWaimoPens is a wonderful jinmao author and i love, truly adore, this fic as one of the few that didn't have any smut, because the smut is was not required for this and the way that this fic was Jinshi and Maomao having that very necessary conversation about consent in a rewrite of the LN13 night visit was so so wonderful to read.

these are the fics i find myself going back and rereading and want to give a little extra love to, but believe me when i say i love each and every fic that people submitted and wrote for this event and if you are reading this and you haven't read anything from the collection yet i really think you should! the amount of care that was given to the consent and lack their of at various points in the timeline of the series and to ships other than just jinmao was so very wonderful and i really hope that this is an event that carries on and has people thinking about the way that dubcon applies to knh ships throughout all these many ways and i really hope that i can run a similar event again in future.
