Before Dawn

He was fond of that passing boundary of time just before the night ended, when the stars were still visible in the sky. Since I had nothing better to do, I asked him what his favorite star was. Not that I gave a damn, but I asked anyway.

“Sirius.”

Known as the brightest light in the sky observable from Earth. It’s like a lighthouse guiding your voyage into the far off distance, wouldn’t you say? He replied with a childish, proud grin.

…Are you kidding me? It was utterly ironic that I couldn’t run him down like usual.

“So hey, let’s say you become ‘the final human.’ Then what? What’s the plan?”

Well, let me think. The look in his eyes were clear yet somewhat forlorn when he answered:

“How about setting out on a free journey without any particular goals arranged?”

Even now, he yearns for that future.

“I’d love to cross the seas where everything is new.”

Stand in the Azure Sky

It was a long, long winter. Perhaps staying frozen would have been the easy way out.

But mistakes, regrets, and defeat taught him exactly what he must accomplish.

Do it not for another’s sake. Never give up even if the task is beyond your capability. Never turn away even if you don’t stand a chance of winning.

“That is how the non-innately gifted fight.” That hand covered in scars was a testament to it.
