And here we are, at the conclusion of the pitch of strips that I made for Marjorie of the Weirdlings. I hope you enjoyed this little slice of imagination, and as you can imagine, there are a LOT of ways that I can continue to tell stories in this universe. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
I had more than a few creative assignments that I ended up turning into comics. In fact, my other comic strip, Dandy & Company, BEGAN as a school assignment I did when I was 8.
And for fans of my old comic, Dandy & Company, a slightly revised version of Bernard makes a cameo as one of Marjorie's classmates.
Ultimately, this strip is a play on many elements of my own childhood and how I made comics to tell stories and escape from reality. As is hinted a few times, Marjorie's imagination is the basis for stories that she draws, and that's often what we're seeing in the strip.

I have been DYING to get to this strip as I adore Weirdling-Mom and hope the opportunity to draw her more becomes a thing.
Visualizing "eyes in the back of my head" as snake-hair seemed too good to be ignored and played off of Heidi's dreads for a fun visual. Plus, I love Marjorie's "thoughtful" expression at the beginning.
So, this strip is leading somewhere: The revelation of Marjorie's Mother's "Weirdling" form. As a point of trivia, I designed her as a MONSTER before I designed the Human mother, and needed a plot device to introduce her properly. She's loosely based on Heidi and Heidi's dreads will be a factor in mom's Weirdling version to be revealed in the next couple of strips.
Of all of the "Sunday" format strips drawn for this series, this one was my favorite. I love inventing the different monster forms, and playing on the idea that "Weirdling" Marjorie is technically naked makes for a great punchline.

So, this mini-storyline ended up taking a full month to run here as a weekly, which I know is a really long stretch. Keep in mind that the 40 plus strips that make up this collection were designed as part of a pitch for a DAILY comic strip that was rejected. (Well, I assume, as none of the places I sent it for submission even responded.) If "Marjorie" continues past these initial strips, it will be slightly retooled to hopefully work better in a weekly format. Only time will tell.
Sometimes, half the fun of this strip is coming up with how to visualize everyday things as monsters from Marjorie's "Weirdworld". IN this case, the washer/dryer as a two-headed monster that spews water from one mouth and fire from the other seemed to be a fun solution.
T0 this day, I'm a 45-year-old woman, and I still have dreams where I have to avoid the stairs to the basement in the house I grew up in. That stuff really sticks in your head, doesn't it.
As a little kid, few things terrified me as much as going into the basement. Ours seemed like a bizarre labyrinth of nooks and crannies for monsters to hide in, and I'm still moderately convinced that my Grandfather's little tool room down there was haunted, because any time I had to go down there for anything, I heard things moving around in that smaller side room.
As my mother can attest, I absolutely tried this as a little kid. After all, Kool Aid was a powder that turned into a delicious liquid in water. Heck, the Mac and Cheese I loved was made by adding a power to milk and butter. So my tiny, stupid mind LOVED Garlic and we had garlic powder, so I had to try it. Marjorie seems to have enjoyed the final product a LOT more than I did as I discovered how WRONG I was rather quickly. lol

Bit of trivia. This was originally going to be the SECOND strip and was drawn in that order. But I wanted to introduce Spork in the fashion that I did, So I moved it on the schedule to here.
I will forever argue that Raisin cookies are a crime against nature.
