Have you ever written fragments of poetry in your notes app? At 3am, in the car, crying on a bus, in the bathroom at a party? Momentary catharsis, the words that felt like an important epiphany in that moment, only for the words to never be looked again again? Almost everyone I know writes "Shitty" Notes App Poetry from time to time. (To paraphrase the movie Kill Your Darlings, "Like all lovers and sad people, I write unedited poetry in the notes app.") Even if we are often ashamed of it afterwards and feel that it's bad or "fake deep", I think there's a lot of beauty and a lot of common feelings to be found in this kind of raw, unedited writing. I want to embrace the "shitty", the unfiltered, the utterly genuine honesty of it. I believe that if we read each other's moment-poetry, we would see a lot of our own complicated feelings mirrored in other people's writing, and is this not what poetry is about? While I will also share some of my own, I would love to collect a variety of these poetry snippets from many people. If you would like to submit some of your own Notes App Poetry, this is the place for you. Depending on how many responses I get, I'm thinking about compiling the submissions in something like a zine that I will make available as pdf (for free, obviously). The details of that are still to be determined (since I don't yet know if I will even get any submissions). You can choose how to be credited in the collection: you can leave your full name, a nickname, anything of the sort, or you can choose to remain completely anonymous. It's entirely up to your own preference. If you want to provide some context for your poem, like describe the situation in which you wrote it, or some detail about your life that drove you to write it, you are welcome to do so, but you absolutely don't have to. By submitting, you consent to your text being reproduced only in an unaltered state and not for profit. I will leave everything exactly as it is submitted, and I will not profit financially in any way. And if you submit something and regret it later, you can contact me and I will remove it from the collection. If you do choose to submit: thank you very much for sharing!!!
