Armand's arc stopped making sense the moment he took that letter out of his pocket, but you were too busy blasting Big Boss to see.
Taking into consideration both book and show Armand's character traits, he boils down to love and self-preservation. And none of what's happening in the finale fits into that.
It should have been Daniel in the torture chamber, that is. He should have been angry at Daniel. He should have been plotting against him. He should have looked at him and thought, it's you I want next.
Armand tried saying sorry. Didn't work. He tried confessing. Didn't work. Tried painting himself a hero who had spent 52 years saving Daniel from his bad life decisions. Daniel laughed at him and told him he would never love him. Armand then lured him in with a good gossip, a way to come back at Lestat (don't even start me on Daniel's arc this season. It's non-existent. Daniel is as good as dead) and some cool vampiric powers. And it should have been Daniel still refusing to love him.
Back in the torture chamber, boy.
The idea I've conceived the moment my back collided with the concrete wall should have been him renting a flat and reshaping it into a copy of their place on Divisadero. The psychological torture should have been directed at Daniel and it should have been Daniel, a matured, wise version of him looking at Armand and dissecting him as skilfully as he dissected Louis in s1-2. It should have been Daniel NOT BEING AFRAID OF ARMAND anymore and seeing the monster in him and saying, I get it, you're a scared kid whose life has just been destroyed, and you think it is me who has destroyed it, but no, it started when you were 12 and never really went uphill. Instead of "I saw good in you for a while" it should have been "I see the evil in you and I get you, and I forgive you, now please untie me."
The chase should have started there and then.
