Okay, I’m unreasonably angry to see people shit talking Will Graham again. If you think he was a bad person, you totally missed the point of season two.
Start with episode eight. The very beginning of this episode opens with Jack and Will fishing. The metaphor they make explains the entire point of season two. Will Graham is putting on an act. Very little of what he says or does is genuine. He’s luring in Hannibal, getting him to bite even when he doesn’t want to - convincing him that’s he’s on his side. This is how they’re going to catch him. Will Graham is undercover.
Agents go undercover all the time for various reasons, like infiltrating drug rings, etc. In this case, he’s doing it to CATCH A MASS SERIAL KILLER. Do you know what agents do when undercover? Some pretty shitty things, if it comes down to it. People need to believe that they are a bad guy.
Did you watch how Will Graham acted with Peter? THAT is who he really is. He has no reason to pretend with him. He is a genuinely caring man at heart.
But he was manipulating Alana!!
No, he wasn’t. At this point, Alana believed that Hannibal was innocent. If she found out about this plan, she would have told Hannibal and everything would have been ruined. Do you know what happens when Hannibal finds out people are working behind him? Mizumono.
Will was distancing himself from her for her own good, as well as for the sake of their whole undercover operation. If he let her in on it and she surprisingly didn’t tell Hannibal? She would be in Beverley Katz’s situation.
What about his assault on Freddie?
I agree, this is the one part his actions are questionable. Yes, he could have sat down and had a talk with her, explained what they needed her to do. My best reasoning behind this is that we’re talking about Hannibal Lecter. It’s proven that you can smell fear on people, and this man could detect stomach cancer. If he can smell out that, I think he’d be able to tell the difference between a frightened Freddie Lounds lingering on Will and one who he sat down and had a talk with. I’m not saying this dismisses the fact that he did assault her, but it is an explanation as to why.
I see such an unreasonable amount of Will Graham hate. If you don’t like his character, fine, but don’t hate him for all the wrong reasons.
tl;dr – will graham isn’t an asshole and you misinterpreted the entire point of season two.
EDIT: Let’s not forget that he wasn’t a good cop because he couldn’t pull the trigger. He’s not a murderous asshole. Goodbye.
