hmmm i cant remember if youve talked about this, but what do you think severus’ thoughts on sunrose would be? do you think anything would change in the dynamic between princerose during/after sunrose were dating?
furthermore, what about his thoughts on rosekiller?
Hiii okay I think I am ready to answer this!
Princerose has definitely been haunting my conscience recently, I love them.
I talked about this a LITTLE bit when I answered your Princerose ask a short while back, but I do actually think my thoughts have changed a bit.
So, I originally said I could see it being that Evan and Severus are friendly enough with each other, until they both realize how devesated they are about James and Lily getting together and that's their bonding moment...but i honestly feel like that's not interesting enough, and so i have a different idea now that I have thought on them more.
Evan and Severus are very close- Severus is the first friend Evan really has who he gets to fully choose on his own, and feel chosen by them. They have a weirdly clingy and dependent relationship, despite Severus never being willing to admit it.
Evan is aware of James's existence because of the Marauders treatment of Severus. Evan is unimpressed but he's also being left alone by the Marauders because of his relationship with Sirius.
Once James and Evan start meeting, Severus can see a shift immediately. In the way their eyes meet, the familiarity. Severus has never hated James more than now. He's so upset.
And of course, because Evan is wrapped up in a new boy, he's not as touchy or obsessed with surrounding himself with Severus, which causes Severus to be crazy jealous. He starts to be more aggressive and rude to Evan than normal, so it's gone past just every day teasing. Evan hates feeling like Severus is growing to resent him, but he doesn't know how to fix it, so he continues to run further to James.
I actually imagine that while trying to find Evan at a party he was dragged too, Severus walks in to find Evan and James all over each other, touching and clearly headed in a direction of...well, you can imagine. And Severus feels a sense of heartbreak he can't put a steady finger on. He hates how happy James looks, how easy it appears for the two. He also can't stop watching, and he just sort of lurks in the door, and they have no idea he's there. So he witnesses everything they do together.
Severus wants to have full ownership over Evan. Until this point, Evan has no idea Severus knows something is up, but now that Severus knows it's 100% true, he confronts Evan about it. It's a huge fight, but at the end of the day, Severus can't lose Evan and Evan can't lose him, they're all they've really got. But Severus becomes much more possessive, controlling, and judgemental.
When James breaks Evan's heart, Evan goes to Severus first and foremost. Not only does this solidify the raging hatred Severus feels for James, it also makes Severus sort of close in on Evan, and Evan lets him. Again, Princerose never becomes an established couple, but they're possessive and they touch each other and mess around, and Evan surrounds himself entirely with Severus, even more so than he does with Regulus, whose completely in the dark about all of this.
Barty and Severus dislike each other for very similar reasons that Regulus and Barty dislike each other. Everyone but Evan can see that Barty is a manipulator and a virus, and he's using Evan. Unlike James, who made Severus treat Evan slightly worse due to his anger, Barty's presence in their lives makes him pull Evan closer.
They've also matured more around this time, and Barty hasn't spent their whole youth terrorizing James. They're also getting closer to the actual war, and Severus seeks a more mature sense of control over Evan, where he stops seeing Evan as a possession or a person he has a right to, and more like someone he actually wants to protect.
Evan feels comfortable with Barty, but he also understands that he should keep Severus's warnings in mind too. Severus hates the idea of losing Evan, but he also knows he has no full claim on him.
Barty hates Severus. Hates his constant presence, hates that Severus and Evan have matching rings. It's an obstacle to him. At first it just enrages him because it's a hindering to him getting fully close to Evan and therefore close to the Deatheaters. But as more time goes on, it becomes genuine jealousy as Barty feels deeper emotions towards Evan. He hates that Severus is the only one who Evan will let touch him casually or whisper in his ear when they're in a public place. Barty seeks to be that for Evan, he wants Evan to see him that way.
Severus never stops watching the situatuon like a hawk, but he does back off slightly when Barty and Evan do become official. Evan is so in love with Barty, more than he ever has anyone.
This is a weird comparison but Severus and Barty's relationship at this point is kinda like that of a divorced couple who share custody of a kid. They hate each other but protecting Evan and Evan comes first between the two of them.
When Barty returns from that fateful mission without Evan, Severus is the first to burst in and point out that Evan didn't apparate with them.
That day when they learn that Evan has died, Severus no longer tolerates Barty. He presses hard on every bruise of grief Barty has, and he makes sure Barty knows fully and completely that it is his fault that Evan is dead.
So yeah! Hopefully all of this makes sense...
