Neither of them are cis, let's get that straight (unlike them), they've both got some sort of gender fuckery going on
Tonks has no idea why they're in love with Marlene, she like is but she isn't. Tonks is disgusted with Marlene's attitude and way of living, because Marlene doesn't care, like she cares but she doesn't. She'll say she stands for things, she in theory does, but she doesn't act on them. She's passive about it all and that infuriates Tonks, cause Tonks can't just watch everything around them and not do anything about it?? Like, she knows that if everyone says that they stood for something but did nothing about it, nothing would actually fucking change. Yet, she's found herself in an (on and off) relationship with someone who's exactly the opposite of everything she stands for. Maybe it's because she remembers that first moment she saw Marlene yelling at a coach over how he was treating the younger players and felt something spark in her at the girl. Like she knows Marlene can do it, she can be something, she just chooses not to, or maybe what's worse than choosing not to, she doesn't want to
But, also, Marlene is also so bright and warm, you can't help but be drawn in around them, you want to be around them, especially when they smile, it's like you forget anything bad... Marlene definitely has that way about them, allowing them to make anything bad about themselves and the world around them seem to disappear while they speak, and Tonks wasn't immune to that
Part of why Marlene loves Tonks because while everyone else seems to expect nothing more from Marlene than she gives them, Tonks holds Marlene to the same standards that Tonks holds herself to, if not more. Tonks knows what she can be, and wants her to be that, even if that's not what Marlene is ever going to be. The other reason? It's precisely because Tonks is everything that she's not— Driven, active, motivated, always going from one thing to another, trying to achieve something, be someone, that Marlene loves her. More than anything, Marlene fell in love with Tonks' passion, how much she wants to do, to change. Marlene is never going to be that, she knows it, but being around Tonks makes her kinda sometimes want to, and even though that never actually pans out because she knows she doesn't want to be something, she's right next to Tonks who does, and is. She admires that, along with how hot Tonks is when fired up okay
Tonks is little top, little pants/skirt, Marlene is Big top, big pants/skirt
They're both big cuddlers, sometimes Tonks likes to act like they're not, but as soon as Marlene hugs them, they've got the biggest smile on their face and hugging Marlene back
Tonks doesn't let the fact that Marlene's an alcoholic go unchecked, not at all, she's constantly on Marlene's ass about it. A lot of Marlene's friends will kinda let it be/not mention it unless it gets really bad, but the fact that they don't already means that it is bad, just cause it seems like Marlene is functioning, it doesn't take away the fact she's addicted and has a problem, and Tonks is always trying to help them, and it doesn't work, but that never stops them from trying to get Marlene to change
Marlene does tend to get mad at Tonks because Tonks has a tendency to take out her stress and anger in the wrong places (aka Marlene) and it's not even fairly directed, like it seems fair because at first it seems like Tonks is getting at Marlene for her usual bullshit, but then her words seem to cut a little deeper, a little meaner, and Marlene can't stand it, like yeah she's a mess she always is, but that's not why Tonks is actually mad
With Marlene being significantly older than Tonks, Tonks will periodically go through normal young adult things, of tiffs with their friends, and Marlene is always there to help her and share her (rare) wisdom from when they were that age (which always surprises tonks bc like??? Marlene of all people is saying this??)
While Marlene knows that they don't want to be anything, have any goals or dreams, and doesn't care, it's also a weakness of hers. Because when she looks around and sees her peers doing all these things, being something, it's something she'll never have nor want to have, and that's kinda something that gets to her sometimes. And Tonks, while she hates that fact about Marlene, she can acknowledge that it's something that's not gonna change and does make Marlene feel bad, so she tried to comfort Marlene sometimes when they're grumpy about it
A big fear of Tonks' is failure, or even just perceived failure, like more than the average person. Especially with the profession she's in, there are times when things aren't going to happen right away, because change doesn't always happen in a day, or it just ends up not working at all, and Tonks comes home devastated, or crumbles the moment they're in the house, and Marlene is always(usually) there to listen and try to comfort them the best they can

It's precisely because Marlene doesn't do much that her doing services means so much and is a show of love
Top Marlene x Bottom Tonks (Marlene gets a renewed sense of energy and motivation when it comes to sex, and Tonks needs to be given a break, eaten out and fucked until she can't think)
You've also gotta hear me out on a reverse age gap with them two, Young and reckless Marlene with Older and responsible Tonks... Tonks who tames Marlene from being all over the place which makes Marlene realize she had no aspirations and was just trying to fill that to make herself seem like something... and then Tonks who had finally gotten her life to slow down after such an active youth when Marlene came along and made things lively again right when she needed it...
But also (back to the usual age gap) Marlene is like 5'5/6 and Tonks is easily like 5'10/11 if not 6'
Marlene is also strong and loves picking Tonks up and throwing her around (playfully)
Marlene loves horror movies while Tonks is actually the scaredy cat (Tonks always wants to watch them anyways because they're interested but always gets scared)
3/4 days out of every week are these two fighting or bickering of some sort like those old married couples
They both run hot and don't like to sleep with many clothes on
Tonks can and has dragged Marlene to protests

Marlene does stupidly try to impress Tonks sometimes, in really bad, cheesy ways
They remind me of hot summer days in a park when the sky is super blue and you can hear the birds

All in all they kinda hate each other as much as they love each other
