Hiroshi Yoshida was a 20th century Japanese painter and print-maker. He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga style of ukiyo-e woodblock printing, and is noted especially for his excellent landscape prints. Yoshida travelled widely, and was particularly known for his images of non-Japanese subjects done in traditional Japanese woodblock style, including the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, the Grand Canyon, and other National Parks in the United States.

Boatswain’s Mate Seaman John Wheeless paints the starboard anchor of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis. Boatswain’s Mate, the oldest rate in the Navy, has a rich history of honored traditions. BM’s are the leaders and backbone of every ship’s crew. A Boatswain’s Mate maintains the exterior surfaces of ships, deck handling machinery and equipment, handle cargo and operate small boats during a number of evolutions including Anti-Terrorism Operations and Maritime Interdiction boardings of suspect ships.

Quite the most spectacular image of a machine of war, the Royal Navy dreadnought HMS Superb emerges from the dark and filth of the industrial air, spring 1909. Her masts have been stepped down so that she may pass under bridges while making her way along the River Tyne after construction.
