But instead of having giant explosions every movie like DetCo, JinMao should be shooting cannons and be using swords. Instead of Shinichi learning how to shoot a gun or fly a helicopter or drive a boat in Hawaii, let’s have Jinshi pull out a random skill every movie and say that he learned it while at Military Camp. Instead of Conan kicking soccer balls at Mach 20 at the faces of every culprit, let’s have Maomao poison at least one bad guy per movie.

Since Conan gets shot, stabbed, drowned, beaten up, buried under avalanches, burned, nearly exploded…okay let me stop. Since Conan goes through the torment nexus, I want to put JinMao through it as well.

What’s that saying? Screaming, crying, throwing up 😂 No, seriously though, nothing really compares to Apothecary Diaries right now I feel like. The story is so well written, the characters are captivating and the animation…just look at it. Cannot wait to have Maomao and Jinshi back in the anime and in this movie. The trailer was a welcome surprise 💜💚

The movie trailer allready came out, but I heard there were going to be explosions before hand and the image of MaoMao that came to mind was so, so, funny I had to draw her!!

"Goodbye Lara" upcoming TV anime Episode 2 preview + stills

It's probably noteworthy that the concept trailer from a few years ago opens on a shot of various different The Little Mermaid books.

This has gotten the show a couple of comparisons to Princess Tutu, which was an exceedingly meta magical girl anime themed around ballet and fairytales. Grace is kind of taking on Drosselmeyer's role here in that she's invested in the heroine's story as a work of entertainment and clearly trying to guide it along (in the final scene of the first episode, I'm like 99% sure Grace-as-a-fish was deliberately guiding Mari to where Lara would land) though she's a more active character in the story she's trying to set up.

Unlike Drosselmeyer, she doesn't seem to be rooting for a tragic ending, even if her motivation (so far) seems to be for her own entertainment. I'm kind of getting the vibe that Sayonara Lara is Grace writing a yuri fix-it fic for the original HCA story.
