The Chronicles of Major Kururugi

Maybe they both had a similar deal that day? Friends unable to show up.

His smile was still there, watching as the brunette moved closer to him. The question to follow surprised him, but really had his spirits rising again. It was as if he knew Yamamoto was lonely and came there to help. “Haha, not at all! Thank you!” Before he knew it the other was sitting beside him, Yamamoto grinning to him before he moved to grab the rest of his sushi.

"It's nice to meet you," he greeted eagerly back, unwrapping his own lunch - just a sandwich, nothing fancy - and making himself comfortable. "I'm Suzaku Kururugi. I think I've seen you around, too - you're on the baseball team, right?"

Before he could control his reaction, his eyes widened when Yamamoto offered his food to him. "Ah... real sushi...?" he murmured more to himself than to his fellow student. Suzaku hadn't had sushi since he'd been young - before Britannia had arrived. He seemed to realize his reaction quickly enough because he blushed and graciously accepted the food. "Ah, sorry, it's just that it's been so long since I've had it... I'd love to have some!" He tentatively reached for one of the rolls, eyes lighting up with delight as the unmistakable taste graced his palate. 

 School was about halfway over now. Well… for the day, anyway, and Yamamoto was currently on the rooftop for lunch, where he always had it. Today though, his friends were either busy or late and had yet to show up.

Club activities? Lunch detention? Or maybe tutoring? He couldn’t be sure… He’d wait a little longer to eat.

Which he had. About ten minutes had passed before Yamamoto finally began eating his bento. He was pretty hungry and didn’t want to wind up eating in a rush. But before long, another five minutes went by and most of his sushi was gone. He looked to the near-empty container, placing it on the ground beside him before lying down. Just in case one of his buddies did show up, he’d have a little food for them, like he always did.

He wasn't sure if he'd ever talked to the other student before. He'd seen him sometimes at baseball practice after school, he vaguely remembered, but the peak of their interactions was maybe brushing by each other in the school halls. He seemed friendly enough, Suzaku reasoned, so he crept forward. 

"Hey, mind if I join you?" he asked with a smile, taking a seat next to the other boy.

Now that he said it like that, she felt a little silly for not understanding the question. A head tilt on her part because he seemed fairly flustered and she had no idea why. Instead of commenting, she merely smiled and gave a quick nod. “Okay ~! Where did you want to go?”

"Where...? Hmm..." he hadn't really thought about that. In fact, he hadn't even expected to get this far! "Well... what about that karaoke bar, Re_install? Well, we could stop at that pizza place before we go there, too... I mean, whatever you want to do..."
