Kimono as Halloween Costume?

Japanese kimono is one of the traditional clothing items often involved in cultural appropriation battles, so thought it might be interesting to bring this to Tumblr. A common phrase heard in cultural appropriation discussions is, “It’s a culture, not a costume.” But what if the culture decides that the traditional fashion can be worn as costume? Tokyo Kawaii Musee, a shop run by Japanese kimono designers in Tokyo’s Harajuku neighborhood, is encouraging foreigners to dress up in kimono as a Halloween costume.

…if you want something original and eye-catching, then how about renting a Japanese kimono as a Halloween costume?
