U.S. Department of Education launches national challenge to bring space missions to high school students
We’re thrilled to announce we’re sponsoring CTE Mission: CubeSat. @usedgov’s national challenge is helping high school teachers start new #space projects — in-person or remote. Learn more at the September 1 virtual information session.
Hello teachers, You may be overwhelmed with the opening of the new school year now. If you are looking for an engaging and exciting science experiment to supplement your classes, check out the Magnitude.io ExoLab. ExoLab-8 is an NGSS-aligned plant science experiment and year-long program for K-12 classrooms to practice scientific inquiry, experimental design, and data science through the experience of growing a legume plant in an internet-enabled growth chamber (ExoLab) in their classroom and in microgravity on the International Space Station.Students will practice growing their legumes on Earth between August-December of 2020, the legume will then be launched into orbit and grow on the International Space Station for 30 days in February 2021, and in March-May 2021 students will be invited to participate in post-flight genetic and data analysis.
This novel event-based approach to classroom learning will position your students at the forefront of scientific research, discovering insights in real-time alongside our team of Principal Investigators and scientists. The ExoLab-8 program can be conducted remotely, in the classroom, or through a distributed education of blended or hybrid learning styles to fit your teaching needs.Signup to a live person office hour and learn more directly from our PI, Principal Investigators. https://magnitude.io/at-school-or-at-home/

Kentucky State University – STEM Conference for Minority Male
Minority males are underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce as compared to their representation in the US population. Roadblocks that continue to challenge minority males include: disparity in access to high-quality STEM educational resources, a lack of role models, and a shortage of highly trained, minority STEM educators. Drawing on findings…

This year, my classes embarked on a mission of launching a high altitude weather balloon, in cooperation with Magnitude.io. I’m the 8th-grade science teacher at the San Francisco Friends School and though I’ve been teaching for over a dozen years, I’ve never done a project like this before. We started the project in January when Ted and Tony came into our class…
