He's busy and he feels terrible, even as will picks him up and keeps him going. It's a mixture of the new megastone and exhaustion, probably.

He has to keep going. He has to get everyone he can to safety. He has to win, even if the margin is slim.

He's tired.

He's tired, he's older than ever, and someone snuck new contacts into his phone that he has, thus, snubbed. He's tired and lonely. One can forgive one selfish thing in the face of all he does.

She follows him wherever he goes, always ready to brace herself against him if his twisted leg decides to stop functioning for a bit. She gives him warmth when he is cold. She isn't much of a battler yet but that's a work in progress.

She's kind to others sometimes too. Not all, nervous as these Dark Types can be, but the important ones. She purrs to Courtney and she drags Little Cyrus back into the room if he wanders off, happy to curl around the strange boy as he draws. She's a bit motherly, maybe. He wonders if she had a litter before he met her.

He never thought himself much of a cat person. But he's growing fond of cattish habits like independence, focus, and how she disappears for an hour only to bring back food for them both. Most Pokemon dislike his state of being but she seems unfussed.

"You're a disaster." Little Cyrus had said once, quiet as usual. "Of course she likes you."

The boy wasn't one for insults. So he was forced to look at it through the plain mindset of a very odd child and yes, that would make sense. An Absol forever following an unnatural disaster; quite poetic.

It doesn't quite explain the treadling and purring but maybe she, too, was another oddity in his life.
