-  ace’s older brother, seven years older than him. you can see where ace got some of his traits and resemblance from. he’s pretty carefree, flashy, and quite a flirt to lighten things up. he still lives with ace and the rest of the family, working at a management firm as a marketing consultant. his people skills work well in the job, and the connections does make things easier compared to doing it himself.

-  humor runs in the family. august’s birthday is in july, yet he is named august. their dad thinks it’s still funny. smh.

-  the trappola family is financially well-off, living in one of the richest sections of the rose kingdom. their parents take care to not let wealth spoil the kids. august learned it well as he grew up and passing the same outlook towards ace, much to his dismay.

-  back in nrc, he’s sorted to heartslabyul and played magift. august isn’t an honor student by any means, but his grades weren’t in danger. he likes having his own way around magic. he does tend to act lazy, so teachers don’t have a fond opinion of him either.

Astre and Cater... they’re similar and yet so different, in their own way. It’s a wonder how Cater can still have the guts to pull through his white lies and excuses with a younger sibling that observant.

ah, the old soul, nice to meet again. the time of ages is etched into your bones, you see clearly. you've watched the heartache in this realm and sworn to solve it. but kindness without limits is self destruction. oh little leaf, strong and wise, you seek to bring peace with your presence. I'd be wrong to say you fail at this effort, but you mustn't set yourself on fire to keep others warm. you wish to please everyone, to protect them all. but if you shield the saplings from the sunlight they will never grow, and you one day will wither. protect yourself too. you know there are no happy heroes, so don't be one. be a friend. your loved ones will not forsake you for not being perseus slaying all their demons. you have your own monsters, why not meet them first before you conquer anyone else's nightmares. oh true-hearted paladin you are brave, and you are good enough. you know that right? be true to yourself, one cannot do anything saintly if they did not tend to their own wounds first.

oh heart of ice and mind of gold, what am I to do with you? you are only good in small amounts, bittersweet fledgling, you are hard for most to swallow. your spirit is strong, your wit is potent, your biting essence drives even the most daring away. but why are you hiding your sweetness? I know within you, you are soft, but humanity has made you bitter. you mask your pain and sorrow with spite and sensibility. you say you do not care about trivial things, but don't you? sweetheart relax. you can let down your drawbridge, the waters are not poisoned. I know you have looked monsters in between the eyes and scoffed at them, but please, relax. you think your armor protects you but it is smothering you slowly. little owlet, when will you learn, words can only get you so far? feelings are what makes this world pulse. do not suppress your feelings. your heart can still thaw my dear. trust.

i’ve been wondering why it’s titled “the case study of vanitas,” when a memoir or a biography would’ve fit better — but his teacher asked him the question to search for the book of vanitas and determine it for himself if it’s good or bad, to draw his own conclusion.

noe is a curious boy, always starry-eyed to the new world unfolding before him and being with vanitas helps him gradually understand it all better. but being young and naive, there’s always not enough time to grow out of it. we know vanitas dies and noe keeps mentioning his regrets. if i had just reached out my hand, if only i knew, if only i acted on it sooner.

vanitas is an enigma. a selfish prick; sometimes rude, sometimes human. i’m sure they’ll grow from “two people with common interests” to something that’s close to a friend. not a confidant, but a companion at best.

trey is not a kind person, not in the way he believes someone kind should act. he was raised to always be the bigger person, the more responsible one, both as the eldest sibling and outside the household. so everything is kept behind lock and key: the anger for losing riddle, for his mother’s cruelty, for the hopelessness against her authority and unfairness, to always help yet merely brushed over. trey sets his own rules to make sure none of this is let out unless he found it necessary.

“You’re hiding a painful burden.” 

Trey stops whisking the eggs after the conclusion Cass ends up with. Is it too obvious of a diversion as soon as Riddle came into the conversation? He’s lucky this time around — with his back turned away and the other from the kitchen counter, with no one to see an unreadable face from someone who always seemed so sure of everything.

After a beat of silence, he adjusts his glasses and smiles; reassuring, nonchalant.

-  moray eels are known to have poor eyesight, and while this is somewhat mended in jade’s human form to adjust, he is near-sighted at best. high sense of smell and sensory perception are what makes up for it, being able to sense rook’s stalking when not even riddle and azul could notice him. the other exception is someone like leona; an animal with keen senses.

-  eels also don’t need to eat every day. they can survive eating twice a week, and once a week once they’re an adult. one of their common deaths is from over-eating, so it must’ve been a pleasure to have the luxury to eat a lot of food without risking themselves. there’s also the growth spurt to consider a part of their appetite, too; the average height in the leech family is 7ft.

-  the family leads a suspicious business with shadier acquaintances, for sure — and jade has no regrets of having this kind of life nor would he wish another. he can’t imagine another life besides this one. he adores his brother, the twins are treated well with respect and equipped to handle reality; jade is grateful for everything he has. he loves the land, but it’s not enough to replace this.

    “  Here’s  some  free  advice  for  you.  If  someone  mocks  you  ,  make  them  suffer  worse.  They  call  you  ugly  ?  Carve  up  their  face.  They  laugh  at  a  cast  you  have  ?  Make  sure  they’ll  never  use  that  limb  of  theirs  again.  It’s  simply  really  ,  crush  people  like  that  under  your  heel.  “

“  ... Oh? I like what you think.  ”  Perhaps he finds some of these examples a tad excessive, too much energy and attention for childish insults — but isn’t the right way? You can’t talk down entitled humans with mere words. You have to prove your worth, and they’ll never look down on you again.
