So. In regards to this.

I’ve seen a LOT of people interpret this as Susie being delusional and sleeping on the floor in a closet playing make-believe in a fake world when there’s obviously a lot more nuance than that?

Susie fully understands how Dark Worlds work. She isn’t literally sleeping on the floor with a bunch of objects. Dark Worlds may represent fiction but they are nonetheless real and so are the beings who live in them. The game has gone out of its way time and time again to explain that fact.

The real tragedy to her situation lies in the fact that her home life is so bad that she’d rather stay in a dark world rather than go to the apartments in the light world. You can say she’s not “facing reality” but she doesn’t have any reservations with being in the light world or interacting with lightners, she just doesn’t want to go to a “home” that’s all but stated to be abusive.

Please don’t get me wrong. Susie staying in the Dark World isn’t a good thing. It’s bad that she has to do this! But the key word there is “has.” A lot of analyses of the ending I’ve seen treat it like it’s a personal character flaw of Susie’s that she needs to get over rather than a reflection of her circumstances.

So. I think this implied that Dess disappeared near/at the lake (or at least it was the “last time she smiled.”) Something I find notable is that since the sun is coming from the East, its sunrise and not sunset, which could connect to the voice in the code saying

Before, the sun came up, and so many wonderful things happened that made time meaningful.

Maybe it’s the egg room? Maybe it shows a flashback to before Dess’ disappearance or the events that led up to it?

A soccer game goes on for 90 minutes. There was 12 total minutes of extra time. So, 102 minutes of soccer.

If my math is right (and it might not be) they said his name an average of .96 times per minute. There is almost one utterance of his name for every minute of soccer I just sat through.
