That being said when the show wasn't focused on the main character I really enjoyed it. In fact, when the story focused on Patricia, the MC's assistant, it was actually really legimately good. The two best eps, hands down, were the ones where she was a major focus.

I was going down a random rabbit hole and found this on wikipedia.

The idea of using this liminal space as a way to explore the trauma that Mary has experienced is, honestly, great. I think it fits it extremely well.

The idea of using this liminal space to explore how Clark has gone over and over the event with his wife in his mind to the point where it's become hard to tell what really happened is also really great.

That being said, these two should have not been in the same movie.

The idea of Clark relitigating his past over and over again to the point where he wants to stay in the backrooms is interesting but that has nothing to do with Mary who is forced to relive the past because of her trauma and who realizes that the only real way out is to keep facing her past and walking through it until she manages to make her way out.

Again, similar ideas: memories are fluid things and if we're not careful we can become trapped in them. But the why and how for Mary and Clark are completely different. And, maybe, there would be a way to make the two work in the same movie but I don't see any reason to do so when I think the Backrooms themselves and these two stories themselves are more than strong enough to stand on their own.

But, no, he did it all in Middle English and is adding subtitles.

Me: I'd like to embroider something for him and I know he likes the Interview with the Vampire TV show.

Me, after looking around: Hm, no one's really made any nice embroidery patterns for the show.

Me, with completely unearned confidence: I can totally take this image of Lestat from this really cute gifset of the show and draw it and embroider that. I mean, I've never attempted to draw anything that looks like a real person before, but I can totally do it.

Me, several hours later, still with way too much unearned confidence: Apparently I cannot just suddenly draw life like people. Strange, that. That's fine, I can just cartoon-ify it. I've also never done cartoon-ified a real person but this time I'll definitely be able to do it.

Me, several several more hours, realizing that my confidence may have been unearned but drowning in suck cost fallacy: I can fix this.

So, yeah, I did order the umbrella. XD

It turned out it be way cheaper than I thought. I was expecting over $100 and it was $60 which is about the price of a nice (and more boring) umbrella from other companies.

Also, I do really need an umbrella that actually protects against the sun. I went to watch Mr. Geeky at the Tough Mudder (which is a starts early morning and ends early evening event) and I had a regular umbrella and burned the shit out of my shoulders. And, at this point in my life, I don't trust that every company that says their umbrella has great sun protection is telling the truth. But I do trust that when Micheline says this protects against UVA/B she's telling the truth.

Art, specifically photography in this case, can be more that just a record of history, it can be our attempt to make art out of the things that are happening around us. Even in the case of--or maybe especially in the case of--horrific events.

Art, this movie says, is so intrinsic to being a human that some people, when they have nothing else to reach for, will reach for it.

This was an interesting experience for both good and bad reasons.

Good reasons: I found out about whipped backstitch (the smaller letters) which I love; it creates curves so beautifully. I found out I also really love doing woven wheels (the ones that look kinda like roses).

Bad reasons: I find the satin stitch so boring and all the flower petals used it. (I really need to find an alternative.)

Mixed reasons: All the orange spaces and the middle of the flowers are French knots. This thing has a lot of French knots. This is mixed because while there were several times I wanted to scream, there was something freeing about having so many grouped together. If I messed one up (and I messed a lot up) it didn't really matter, I could just use another French knot to hide my sin(s). It was the least stressed I've ever been about that nightmare of a stitch.

So, on the one hand, I'm not really a gothic girl and this isn't really my aesthetic.

But on the other hand this is an umbrella that can be used in the rain and is also UVA/UVB resistant which you think wouldn't be terribly hard to find but you'd be wrong. And I don't post pics if myself but please know those who have met me can attest: I am am super fucking pale and, since my dad died of skin cancer, I have plans to ever be anything other than pale for the rest of my life sooooooo

Also, I do love A Look and of the many things one could say about this umbrella, that it's A Look has to be in the top 5.

I dunno, this is the only angle I've seen the umbrella at so I need to get a better look. But assuming that it's not ridiculously expensive, it's something I may end up getting when if it's not 100% me.
