What was your favorite assignment?

I liked doing the introductions using stickers.

Which unit do you feel helped you grow the most?

I think the one where we had to make a parent resource because I used the web tool Sway, which I hadn't used before.

Which parts of the course were the most challenging? 

At first, it seemed like the last unit would be the most challenging because we had to find a peer.  I couldn’t find an elementary peer so was relieved that we can do it ourselves. I have done it before so that was ok.

How has participating in this course helped you become a better teacher and learner?

A Penpal Project between two classrooms in different countries.

What is in your teacher survival kit?

 I chose paper, pencils, and drawing paper to have the students do a directed drawing; sticky notes for “Good Job” notes to students, notes to myself, and for the students to make notes on while reading. I also picked picture books to read aloud, and a small ball to use for discussions.  And last but not least, a snack and water for me:) 

How will your teacher survival kit help you better manage your classroom?  

It will keep the student’s occupied, so they will behave (hopefully).

How will creating a resource hub for parents help you engage parents so that students behave better online and in your classroom?

STUDENT SURVEY RESULTS ABOUT THEIR DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS

I gave the survey to 10 college students, between the ages of 19 and 21.  The majority of them started at age 8 for playing on computer devices and for internet access.  The majority of the ages for joining their first social network was age 9 (30%) and age 13 (30%). Facebook and Instagram are the most used, followed by Snapchat. Sixty percent message with friends at least an hour a day and 80% are online 2 to 3 hours a day. Ninety percent of the parents talked to them about internet safety. 

It was interesting to see all the different theories that participants picked.  I used the RAT Learning Theory, which I had posted in a different post.  Here are the questions and my answers for this unit.

* How will you adapt your curriculum according to one or more of the digital learning theories?

 When planning lessons for the students, I would make sure that the technology is not just replacing pen and paper or books.  I want them to be learning while they are actively using the technology.  That’s why I like the RAT learning theory as it is simple to use.

*How will teaching students about their digital footprint benefit them?

I think that students should always be aware of what they are posting and how it could affect them and others.  They should know that everything they post is there forever so they should be careful what they post.

This week was fun seeing the other participant’s pictures and stickers in this class.  I think that is a great idea to use in a classroom to have students get to know each other better in the beginning of the year.

Goal Minded Teacher Unit 1: This week’s activities was to set up a Learning Journal. I have never tried Tumblr, so thought I would use this for reflections and showing my projects.
