Fandom has such unresolved mommy/daddy issues about authors. If you apply a little reading comprehension skills to my original post you’ll see I didn’t say anything at all about the author. You guys always make “interpretation” about your beef with the author. You’re all obsessed with the author. This post is just about deciphering what is there in canon. Figuring out what is being communicated by the canon itself with all the words and images and basic formal elements that are there in canon. That’s all it’s about. It really doesn’t matter if the author intentionally put all those things there in a pattern that might support the idea that this one character’s queer. That’s not what this is about. What matters is if you can compellingly argue there’s a pattern of evidence there. Or not. Everyone is conspiring together to make me go insane still adding shit about authorial intent on my post.

it bothers me when someone brings up misogyny in shounen anime and people shrug it off with "its designed for teenage boys, what can you expect." like well. idk i think its actually pretty important that shows for teenage boys are normal about women. i mean i think all media should be normal about women but teenagers are impressionable i think we could put a little bit of feminism in the teenage boy shows. it might do some good. you never know.

#i think the underpinning perception to me re: this kind of thing #is that it’s what convinces you on a gut level that the author doesnt know what theyre doing and is not thinking seriously about their story #whether this is true slash accurate or not varies #but supposedly ‘ little ‘ things can be strong & clear indicators that an author didnt think through their scene and just wanted a specific #aesthetic or moment that accidentally hurls the reader out of immersion in the story #forex - an example from some prev tags - horses being tacked up in the middle of the night #just in riding gear for no reason like theyre cars that can be parked in a garage and just be ready to drive #a ‘ little ‘ thing but it’s like. fully immersion breaking. like oh thats not a real horse. these characters arent interacting with real #horses. they are Means of Transportationing With Aesthetic. and from there it’s such a quick slide into oh these characters arent real arent #engaging arent compelling #bc theyve accidentally fallen thru a hole where the author forgot to put down story (via @silentwalrus1)
