Igarapé do Juá (2026). Santarém, Pará Brasil. Foto tirada em abril, quando os igarapés e rios da Amazônia estão cheios; a mata perto da margem é engolida pelas águas e forma o que chamamos de várzea. Nesse caso, nem dava de ver onde estava a outra margem. Tem mais, essa foto foi tirada de uma estrutura de madeira construída justamente para se chegar na beira do igarapé durante a seca, e andar por cima das águas nos meses de cheia. O igarapé estava tão cheio que eu andei por uns cem metros sobre as águas até chegar na "beira" do igarapé. As águas desse igarapé (e da maioria dos igarapés) são naturalmente barrentas assim mesmo.

Photo taken in April, when the streams and rivers of the Amazon are full; the forest near the bank is swallowed by the waters, forming what we call a floodplain. In this case, it wasn't even possible to see where the other bank was. Furthermore, this photo was taken from a wooden structure built precisely to reach the edge of the stream during the dry season, and to walk on top of the water during the flood months. The stream was so full that I walked about a hundred meters above the waters to reach the "edge" of the stream. The waters of this stream (and most streams) are naturally muddy like this.
