the basics

xiyue’s father was a musical theatre actor and his mother a peking opera singer; from the very beginning, his life has been intertwined with music. they discovered his talents for singing early on, and tried to push for it, thrusting him into intensive music lessons. xiyue didn’t minded drowning in it, because music was his first love.

he’s gotten some fame for it, appearing on some shows as a kid. and due to his parents influences, he has knowledge and some skills in musical theatre and peking opera.

his parents eventually got into scandals, with claims of workplace abuse and infidelity. it went viral on the internet and was the hot topic for a while. it turns out that they were all baseless accusations after a year of fighting for it, but their reputation had already been stained, with the pair being kicked out of their groups.

during this time, they also went through a divorce. xiyue followed his mother, and became obsessed with projecting her music dreams onto xiyue. he doesn’t admits this, but it became one of xiyue’s worst periods of his life, as he tries to please his mother’s wishes for him.

xiyue’s mother then threw him to korea, in hopes that he would become a successful idol there, without the shadows of the faux scandals following him. he joins a small company, and trains for about two years, was promised a debut but it never happened, so he left.

by then, xiyue realises that he’s lost passion in music. and yet, he doesn’t knows what else he could do without music in his life. so he tries to bring it back; busking, playing in temporary bands, etc. nothing worked out for him.

eventually he gets scouted by ydh entertainment, maybe it’s his last chance to bring back his passion? or not. haha!

the idol

xiyue had been a trainee for five months prior sodapop’s debut, so honestly.. he didn’t get much of that trainee bonding stuff going on. he would seem quiet and dead-like initially, until he started to open his mouth. he’s super two-faced; would shamelessly look good in front of staff, but behind closed doors he doesn’t cares about keeping face in a smaller circle

this extends to after debuting, but xiyue still does maintain a good image as yue. he can be rather sensitive to public perception due to past trauma, so he’ll look out for fellow members in his… well, aggressive way…

on another hand, xiyue has a very lackadaisical attitude when it comes to practice/training. he puts in the least amount of effort, doesn’t thinks its important and would say that the fanservice sodapop is forced to give is a good thing for him

which is half a lie. he has his odd love-hate relationship with music. xiyue does gets frustrated at the lack of creative freedom, and he (tries to) practices out of people’s sight. he tries to fight for more creative opportunities, writes and produces music in his free time—for someone who claims to say that music is just a means for him to gain fame and make money

his “lazy” attitude makes people forget that he’s a music genius, though. xiyue is the type to ace all of his music lessons and exams without blinking an eye. everything else? it’s like trying to make a chicken fly

has a really nice voice. says mean stuff with that voice. also probably why he didn’t get his solo debut.
