"Tessie," Brian interrupts, gently, but unable to take thisānot on top of that look on Ryan's face, or the way he broke down so completely in Brian's arms earlier. He's not trying to deny Ryan his late adoptive mother, but there's no genetic connexion here (that he knows of): the cancer that took Cyril's birth mother and the one endangering Ryan are two different strokes of bad luck, no more a familial curse than Ryan's is a punishment for maybe not being as straight as he thinks he should be, and Brian thinks it's fucking important that Ryan understands that as well.

So finally got this on my AO3 dashboard somehow (!!!!!).
That 100th Oz thing I wrote should probably have been witty and thought-out and intelligent or something to celebrate, but nooo. It actually contains the most brain-breakingly awful line of dialogue Iāve ever written. As in:Ā "My baby's so hot the icecaps are meltin'."
Just. Ignore the muffled screaming, thatās only me trying toĀ smother myself with my pillow in shaaaaaame. Iāll be fine. In a while. Hopefully.
I live in whatās basically an unfinished medieval half-cave home, and itās actually the second time a bat gets in, but that other time was a high-speed moth chase with two windows opened. All my windows are closed, DID IT JUST POOF INSIDE LIKE FREAKING DRACULA?

Okay, logically, it could have wriggled in through a gap in the roof tiles. Itās a pipistrelle, itās small enough. And itās wedged itself into the unfinished roof isolation now (which is safe, though home to geckos, but theyāre small and friendly).
I was wrong, it apparently cannot get out through the roof tiles gaps. Itās back, and I SWEAR it flew at my head on purpose. I saw its little face, just before it did. Looked me right in the fucking eyes, calculated distance, percentages of successful intimidation, then whoosh.
YOU TRAPPED YOURSELF HERE, IDIOT. I DONāT EVEN KNOW HOW YOU GOT IN. DONāT BE FUCKING MAD AT ME JUST BECAUSE IāM TRYING TO GET A VIDEO FOR PROOF IāM NOT HALLUCINATING THIS ENTIRE THING.
Also, itās dark as fuck outside. Like, fucking inkwell-level dark. And the one window in this room is ground level, because yay half-caves homes. Iām not fucking opening it until dawn, thatās a recipe for a guaranteed heart attack at the first creaking branch or curious cat. YOU CAN WAIT ONE FUCKING HOUR TO GET OUT, DRACULA. IāLL EVEN GO ON THE ROOF TO MOVE A TILE FOR YOUR MAJESTICALLY IDIOTIC FLYING ASS TO ZOOM THROUGH BEFORE THE SUN GETS HERE.
So I opened the window and climbed on the roof at the first lights of dawn to move a tile which of course means moving like ten and reconfiguring for a while, because of the not-that-logical old tile system we have here so His Idiotic Flying Majesty could leave at any point, opened window or not and I could sleep without worrying about gawking tourists (because yes I do sleep in the daytime like a freaking vampire at the moment, and yes I would really like to sleep at night instead, but just the fact that I sleep is already a win so hey), and do you think he got out?
Of course not. That empty electrical casing on the ceiling I meant to remove ages ago and still havenāt apparently makes for a greatĀ bat bed. Like, perfectly-sized. Perfectly-placed. Super comfy. His entire family was out there zipping through their flying breakfast while I was fiddling with my tiles, but nope. Nice comfy bed instead. THE LITTLE CLIFFSIDE CAVES OF YOUR PEOPLE ARE LIKE ONE MINUTE AWAY, DRACULA. THIS IS NOT A NICE COMFY BED, THIS IS UGLY WHITE PLASTIC. THINK OF YOUR AESTHETIC.
