i feel like i say this a lot but genuinely i do think aspecs in fandom should be allowed to kill and kill and kill and kill and kill and ki

all i'm saying is that if the only lens you can enjoy a story or a character dynamic through is romance and shipping, then well. your media analysis skills are just kinda shit actually. and i'm not sorry for saying it. you're missing the point of the story in question and removing the things that make it unique by shoving everything into boxes. not everything goes in the square hole.

Someone will point out the disproportionate popularity of White male characters and people will come out of the woodwork to go 'that's not racism or misogyny it's just this character is more interesting/hot/relatable' as if the very notion that White men are more interesting/hot/relatable than women or characters of colour isn't literally racism and misogyny. when people say stuff like "you need to have hobbies that aren't media" i agree with the letter of it, because i think that you have to have at least one or two tactile hobbies to stop you from descending into madness. but its never actually about that it always comes with the smug, condescending implication that media is a kind of consolation prize for people who aren't able to have Real interests. and its just like. well i actually do think the collective body of books, film, plays, television, comics, and video games produced by the human race is vast and meaningful enough that a life spent mostly picking through it and reflecting on it could be perfectly fulfilling
