Minutes had passed since the small house elf had appeared within her quarters to announce the arrival of Lucius. It wasnโt unexpected. In fact, the visit had been announced days in advance; something that was going to be the case until eventually Lucius, or their parents would decide the time had come to fully unite the families. Narcissa was ever so adamant to make that a reality, one that she very much found herself looking forward to. There was nothing but the softest of smiles on her lips, hinting at the thoughts swirling around within her mind. It was something the witch only dared to mention when in the company of her older sister Bellatrix.
After all that time spent courting, Cissa could only look forward to the times that she actually got to spend within the company of her future husband. If all went according to the plan her parents had laid out in front of her, then certainly that would be the way to go. It was a precise path, planned out to the tiniest blade of grass and yet one she was oh so utterly determined to follow, no matter how.
โIโd be delighted to.โ The smile had never left, her features ever so lit up by the mere gesture of happiness. The world outside the manor, the world of magic may have been lit ablaze by the reality of war, yet within the halls of the Black manor no such thing could be said. Narcissa was rather proud of the fact that despite the doom and gloom there was a certain warmth within those halls she called her home since earliest childhood. โDo tell, what exactly is it that you predict is yet to come? Cheery things, I hope!โ It was nothing but a silly hope playing around her head. Although sheltered, Narcissa Black was far from naรฏve or stupid. In fact, quite the opposite. Especially, her work within the ministry had been eye opening. Not that she could ever speak of such things, having sworn as much secrecy when it came to the life as an unspeakable as she had when it came to her very own familyโs secrets.
โYou should come visit more often. Perhaps during the daytime.โ A chuckle. โWhile I do love the interior of this grand house, the gardens are filled with such beauty it would be a terrible crime to miss out on it.โ Her eyes went searching, the tiniest moment spent glancing at the wizard next to her before drifting over to the flames flicking within the fireplace. โWould you care for some tea?โ

In the dimly lit drawing room, Lucius Malfoy turned from the leaded glass window, the darkened vista of the Black Manor gardens now a mere reflective sheen behind him. The weight of Narcissa's hopeful words settled around him like the luxurious drapes that cloaked the windows, a palpable contrast to the turmoil of the world outside their sanctum. She was a lighthouse in his storm, her optimism an indomitable beacon against the ceaseless shadows of doubt and uncertainty.
Narcissaโs gentle smile was like the rare bloom in an austere winter landscape, a sight he held sacred and cherished. It was more than an expressionโit was a testament to their shared dreams, their hopes, a sanctuary amidst the gnawing reality of war. A slight upward curve of his lips formed a half-smile, his steel-blue eyes sparkling with an uncharacteristic mirth.
โYour optimism is as refreshing as it is contagious, Narcissa," he began, his voice a soft baritone humming through the hushed room. "One may indeed hope for cheerier things, though the stark reality of our world may often colour our hopes with a tinge of grey. But let us not becloud our evening with such thoughts. Tonight, I prefer the refuge of your company, the allure of our shared dreams.โ
At the mention of the sun-drenched gardens, Luciusโs gaze softened, the frosty pallor of his aristocratic countenance thawing for a moment. The allure of seeing Black Manor in all its daylight splendour, the verdant gardens unfurling their beauty under the radiant sun was indeed enticing.
โI shall endeavour to visit at daybreak,โ he promised, his tone measured, yet brimming with sincerity. โYour gardens are indeed a sight to beholdโa tapestry of nature's artistry in full bloom. However, their beauty, magnificent as it may be, fades into insignificance when juxtaposed with the grace of the lady who presides over them.โ His words carried a playful undertone, his eyes twinkling with genuine warmthโan aspect of Lucius Malfoy often shielded from the world. Yet with Narcissa, he was disarmed, his usually guarded demeanour softening in her presence.
The suggestion of tea drew a curt nod from him. โA cup of tea sounds wonderful. An antidote to the world's disarray, wouldn't you say?โ
As Narcissa moved to arrange for their tea, Lucius returned his gaze to the darkened window, the night sky a reflection of his turbulent thoughts. The wizarding world teetered on the precipice of a war, a delicate balance between power and passion, fear and ambition. Their destinies were intricately woven into the fate of their world, their lives, a never-ending waltz with the insatiable beast of politics and power.
In the face of such tumultuous realities, Lucius found solace in Narcissaโs unwavering presence. She was his anchor in the face of impending storms, his oasis of tranquillity amidst the whirlwind of change. Amidst the uncertainties that plagued him, the fear of failing his legacy, the dread of falling into oblivion, he was fortified by the knowledge of Narcissa by his side. Together, they would weather the coming storm, their combined strength a bastion against the encroaching darkness.
